Can you buy from AA rtw and ex fiji?

All,

I am trying to buy a global traveller ex Fiji. I've been advised to book the itinerary with the AA rtw desk.

I called yesterday and the agent validated my itinerary but then said they couldnt ticket it because they didnt have a rep in Fiji and so I would have to ticket it with Qantas.

Is this right? I've seen threads where people have ticketed with AA in Aus and I cant see any AA sales offices in Aus on their website page.

Can anyone advise if I can do this and how? Or if it is possible at all? I presume I have to get it ticketed in Fiji in order to get the Fiji fare?

Also Qantas in Fiji told me that I cant leave any segments open when I ticket as they need all the flights locked in in order to calculate the taxes. I thought I could leave some flights open and book on my way round? Is this right? Do I need to put guesstimate dates in and change them later?

Sorry if this repeats any previous threads, but I've had a look through and cant quite piece it together.

Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions

Suggestion : Book with a Canadian TA who has Sabre and they can take over the AA priced itinerary. If you do it personally, then QF will be issuing the ticket for you as AA does not have rep in Fiji. Ticket MUST be issued in country of origin ie Fiji. Or through a Canadian TA. FYI Fiji is NOT in Australia hence having AA in Australia isn't going to help you here.

You cannot leave open segments on an E ticket. You can change dates later on but you must have some dates on it.

Do these dates have to be within 340 days (or whatever the booking maximum is) of ticket issue, or can they just be within ticket validity? Do actual reservations have to be made? Presumably there's a reasonably standardized way of doing this.

Any info on the hows & whys would be much appreciated.

Oh wow! So ticket must be ticketed in country of origin (where I would be departing from) OR Canada? How odd - but if it works then great!

So I just phone AA rtw desk - reserve the route and get a record locator reference then phone an agent in Canada and get it ticketed and pay on an aussie credit card? They then mail it to me (or not as e-ticketed).

I just booked exactly what you're trying to do over the phone with Qantas the other day. It was simple and painless - simply called their standard phone reservations centre and got the ticket quoted out at NZ$9,411 all-in with the following routing, which is just under the 34,000 mile limit:

NAN-SYD-SIN-HKG-LHR-JFK-DFW-SFO-DFW-MEX-MIA-LAX-AKL-NAN.

Had to pick dates for all the flights, but as you can change these at any time for no cost it's not a problem.

I'm in Fiji at the moment and on my way through I asked the Qantas guys here if I could book a RTW in Fiji ex-Australia/NZ for the Fiji price but no can do. They did say however that they get a lot of Aussies and Kiwis booking their RTW's ex-Fiji, and some of them use that final sector 10-11 months later to get back to Fiji when they want to do their NEXT rtw.

Strictly speaking you can ticket anywhere. But to get the Fiji fare, Guy Betsy is right - must be ticketed in Fiji, or in Canada, or in another country that has an even cheaper fare than Fiji.

Ah - ok - so its not that I get ex-Fiji from Canada (I was a bit confused), it was that I would get ex-Canada from Canada and those fares are pretty good.

Not quite as good as ex-Fiji I think, and as I live in Aus - cheaper for me to get there in the first place.

Ok - looks like its Qantas after all then - thanks all for the help and advice. wijomas - you just called the main Qantas reservation number of the website then? They have been pretty slow getting back to me as they asked me to email my itinerary which was 3 days ago now....

You had it right in post no. 4, you can buy an ex-Fiji rtw in Canada if you so choose at the ex-Fiji price.
When travel originates in a country for which a specific local currency fares is published and the ticket is sold
in another country, the fare will be that published for the country of origin converted to the currency of the
country of sale at the bank selling rate. The resultant fare must not be lower than from the country of sale.
Exception: Not applicable for sales made and/or travel originating in Canada

No way! That is a bizarre rule - but a very very useful one. Will call AA tonight and then find a TA in Canada.

Thanks so much for all the guidance

Yep, the one on the website. They were really good for me, did it over the phone while I waited. Took less than 10 minutes to get all the flights sorted, then about another 5 minutes on hold while they priced it out. Try call again and see if you have any more luck. Otherwise, call the Qantas office at Nadi Airport on +679 672 2880 and ask for Sheryl - she seemed very knowledgeable and helpful!

I've just been surfing for Canadian TA's on this site and webwide. Have a couple that I'm trying to see if they will ticket for me. If anyone can recommend, I would be v. grateful - any recommendations by PM would be great if you don't want to broadcast.

Thanks

As far as CX is concerned these statement are simply wrong. See this post for details.
