Peninsula Tokyo, mentioned several times in this thread, opens this Saturday. Who will be the first to stay and report for us?

Peninsula Shanghai now has its own "under construction" page on www.peninsula.com, just as Peninsula Tokyo did a couple of years ago.

I will be there in two weeks and can't wait...not sure if that is "first" though! Ya'll have been very nice with my questions, so I promise to report back if you promise to cross a finger or two for my ANA upgrade?

I will try to visit the RC Powerscourt this weekend and report back !
I can tell you now its in a beautiful location but dont beleive the "close to Dublin" bit, traffic is a nightmare here so you wont be nipping into dublin for a spot of shopping unless you make it a daytrip !

There is a second capella opening in west Cork next spring. I'm sure it will give Sheen Falls Lodge in Kenmare some real competition at last.

We're waiting for the Ritz Carlton's 2008 debut of Molasses Reef, a 125-room hotel on the secluded island of West Caicos.

Ritz versus Capella - no contest

The Ritz Powerscourt is very conference oriented. Capella in County Cork is in a totally different league - we are talking high-end Four Seasons standard here. The second Irish Capella is much smaller and without the major spa. It will, however, have a small spa (4 rooms) and will, like all the Capellas use chemical-free products.

I am looking forward to the opening of the Aman Delhi (now delayed until end 2008).

What does anyone think of Six Senses? I heard they were going to build a resort in Gloucestershire, UK, with overwater cottages. Do we think they are any good?

the higher end six senses properties seem to get more consistent reviews here, compared to say banyan tree.

Banyan versus Six Senses?

I think Six Senses would be upset to think they were being compared with Banyan Tree, which is very 4-star. I agree though that SS are at that level and although they want to be another Aman, they are seriously not.

Six Senses

Having stayed at a couple of Six Senses resorts (Maldives and Vietnam), I would have to say that from a service perspective, they are very very good. Really, these are the only two places I've stayed that seem to implement the 'butler' concept correctly. But I think all Six Senses resorts require a certain kind of mind-set - they are all very rustic, which is nice to some degree, but you will certainly not get that 'over the top' luxury feel that you can get with some other places.

Yes, but unlike many on this board (and I'm going to be flamed for this), I am not a big Aman fan. Granted, I've not been to the (seemingly) wonderful Indonesia Amans, but my experiences with their properties (and the service at the properties) in Jackson Hole, Marrakech and Thailand have been underwhelming, at best. My experience at Amanpuri (in a villa) was so bad that I left early and swore off Amans after that. But I pretty much don't talk about any of that on this board, because there are so many Aman Junkies here, I would probably get death threats!
