EF not always rite
EF was showing C3 on Flt 101 LHR->JFK this morning for departure Sep 22. When I called the EXP desk to upgrade, I was told that J was overbooked by 1 and there was no C inventory.

J Overbooking ? That's a new one for me... But maybe just on 777s when F is not full ? After all, it is 35 seats and mostly flexible. That would make sense...

BRU-DFW on 11/22/07 10pm cdt I get two different flights with one showing C1 and another showing C3.
I was told by the EXP desk that AA is being more stingy in releasing seats for EVIPs.
I had called the EXP desk about a flight we are booked on in Nov where there has been lots of J availability from the time we made our reservation. They got in contact with the 'the analyst for that flight' and were told that for a Friday or Sunday night flight they won't release C inventory until very close to the actual date.
I think visibility of C inventory is a function of AA not releasing it early on popular flights.

Well it's only one experience, but I'm sitting here in The CX lounge at LHR still on a wait list for an upgrade on Flt. 105. EF is still showing J2 C0. They confirmed that there were still 2 J seats for sale when I checked-in. First time this has ever happened to me on this flight (which I fly fairly often).
In my experience, even on very full flights on this route, they will release any unsold J the night before. Hope it's not a trend to hold all unsold J seats right up until departure, or even (shudder) not releasing them to C at all!

A related question. My flight to LGW tomorrow shows C0 but the flight after shows C4. Would AA let me change flights for just the change fee if my booking code is available on the later flight? An agent told me no, but I was not sure if I should call again.

Are you sure it's not a cyber-typo ? 4 is a lot for C and you don't see it often. You can always try with various agents. Especially if it's the same day, one will probably relent as long as seats are available. This being said, a C4 on the next flight would be encouraging for boarding J standby on your original flight.

Within the last 3 or so months I have booked TPA/DFW/FRA on 11/15/07
MIA/ MVD iN 2/2008, MIA/MAD in 2/2008, MIA/LHR in 6/2008 all departing on Fridays/Sat, all returning on Sat/Sun
In every instance I used EF to identify the availibility of C inventory and booked and confirmed the upgrades at that time using E-vips.

EF says C4 and my flight shows J1 so its wide open vs my flight that will be tight.

Perhaps some here should spend just a little more time researching on EF and how it operates (and the likely/possible time lag with the AA booking system ) rather than coming up with some off the wall theories as to what they might see listed as class inventory and the reason as such.
FYI I have seen up to C7 listed dozens of times.

What you are saying here is make no sense to me and is certainly not my experience.

The comments were from the AA analyst that specifically manages the ORD-BRU seat inventory.
It's a flight by flight issue. For example I saw various options that included DFW-LGW-LHR-BRU with availability at the time of booking, but who wants to do the LGW-LHR transfer?

- Fly to LGW in biz, then ground-transfer to LHR? or
- Fly the whole trip in coach?
