From the Indrakila suite I could not see anyone or anything except for trees and ocean. Total privacy even standing at the pool or cabana. I joked that the ships out there probably have telescopes to watch the naked people by their pools.

What was fun and I am sure management wouldn't like it is we jumped from each level of the 3 tiered pool to the next pool.
Warning though if you have any problems with stairs don't go to this resort. We probably had 50 steps or so but most of the other rooms had at least double that or more and the Kilasari suite is way in the back so I assume it is a bit of a hike.

It is only maybe a 5-10 foot drop but the pools are shallow and you have to flip your legs over the edge and jump. You could probably get hurt. We rarely saw anyone the whole time. There was only 6 out of 36 rooms occupied so we almost always were the only ones on the beach, at the restaurants, at the pools. The only time we saw more than 2 people was the night with the Balinese dancers. There were about 50 performers (dancers and musicians) and about 10 guest.

You are right, Amankila isn't very suitable for physically handicapped people though Kilasari is right next to a service road leading straight to the lobby, you don't have stairs at all with that particular suite. Taking the buggy to the beach means only 5 stairs at max. from Kilasari to cabana...

Did I mention we saw a komodo dragon walking along the stairs on our way to the beach.
We kept our distance.
Has anyone been to the Aman in Wyoming? It seems wrong for some reason to have any Aman in the US.

I wasn't sure it was a komodo until I came home and looked it up and it was.

re Amangani, it seems to me that it and FS Whistler are the best regarded (in this forum and elsewhere) ski resorts in North America that are NOT ski-in/ski-out.

I suppose wingless' sighting could have been some other more common form of monitor lizard, but I prefer to think of it as a komodo. Best to keep your distance from their filthy mouths. How big was it??? Someday, Mr. Ericka and I are going to Amanwana and Komodo Island. Now that will be an adventure!
By the way, there is a contest being run by Destin Asia magazine where you can win a 5 night stay at an Aman in Indonesia. There's still time to enter until the end of March. You just have to complete a short survey online.

As far as I recall (from my trip with the Amanwana Komodo expedition) there are several species of dragons but the varano komodensis lives only in Komodo and its sister island Rinca (actually we saw only one in captivity in Komodo and dozens wild in Rinca). They hunt buffalos, lacerate them with their big claws and leave them bleeding and come back to eat when the prey is too weak to react. Really impressive.
Now, a riddle: what is this place?

I would say its the Amanyara in the Turks and Caicos.
