Hilton tokyo or New Otani

Oh what a dilemna. Hopefully some of you resident experts can help.

I am travelling alone and staying in Tokyo for 3 days. The purpose of my trip is for pleasure and wish to see sites such as the Fish Market, Ginza, and a day trip to either Hakone,Kamukura or Mt. Fuji. Keep in mind I will be travelling in Mid-December.

I would like your opinion on which of the above 2 hotels I should choose.

Thanks

If you are using the 250 dollar voucher, I would use the New Otani in Osaki. Although it is not as "nice" as the Hilton. It is nonetheless acceptable. Also, to see the sights you stated. The location of the New Otani is perhaps a little bit better. Additionally, you will get more for THEIR money, in terms of number of nights in the hotel.

One last thing, the only drawback I would see with the New Otani is getting there from NRT. You will have to take the Narita express to Shinagawa then transfer to the Yamanote line to Osaki (1 stop I believe). With the Hilton, you can take a limo bus all the way to the hotel.

Limo Bus goes to the New Otani

In fact, the New Otani has direct bus service once or twice an hour from Narita. I find in unpleasantly large and quite mediocre, but have not stayed at the Hilton so can't compare it. I'd point out that, if one signs up online for the Okura Club International (no fee), some reasonable discounted rates become available. The Okura is, IMHO, quite superior to the New Otani.

Rooms from both are small (25sm) for std rooms. If you are going for Otani, apply for their New Otani Club membership (Free) and you should get free breakfast.

New Otani is in Akasaka.
I would use the New Otani in Osaki.
This New Otani is New Otani Inn.

There is a large range in quality and size in the rooms at the New Otani, so you can't easily compare the two hotels without knowing what type of room you are talking about. Nor do I think many of us would view the Okura as vastly superior to the New Otani -- maybe that was true 30 years ago.

Thanks all for your help. With a discussion from another Ft'er I have chosen to stay at the Park Hotel and really am looking forward to it.

MOD you may close this thread if you wish.

Most hotels have such bus service. If you don't have much luggage, take the trains (http://www.jorudan.co.jp/english/norikae/). They're about 1200 Y to central Tokyo (bus is 3000) and much faster. Just be warned that most train stations don't have elevators or escalators.
