3 remain flying without additional work - they will either be sent for such work soon or will be removed from flying at some point soon. Those three are G-EUOG, G-EUPD & G-EUPK.
Are the new build NEOs late? I know airbus has reduced their annual numbers, but that should mainly P&W customers, BA uses CFM on their NEOs, IIRC.
Maybe delays to the MAX are preventing A320s from Vueling cascading within the group, hence the A319s stay a little longer?

  • G-XWBE in AUH for maintenance
  • G-STBE in TPE for maintenance
  • G-XLEK back from a MNL 'C' check and goes back into service today on the LAX route
  • Various A319/A320 and A321 aircraft at Malta for maintenance
  • DUB, GLA and MAD also see short-haul aircraft visits for winter maintenance
  • G-ZBJD is in TEV for a repaint
  • G-ZBJK will hopefully return from CWL shortly with CS, completing the B788 refit program

It has been referenced by IAG but not clearly quantified or explained. They have 50 737s on the way and they dont need to scrap or grow at that rate plus they have the P&W engined A320s in storage which will return to traffic at some point.

G-ZBJA has been indeed been fully repainted on it's recent stay in Teruel. Very shiney with IAG Cargo titles replacing the Royal Mail logo.

The after take off bong is indeed when gear goes up and associated when the emergency lights go out. (Chime is due to the change of light situation). As mentioned this is usually when the gear drops on approach and after the gear goes up on climb out.

It says it can be done by flaps subject to spec, but then if so, it should also stay on until flaps are up on the climb out to as its just to do with config on an either/or. I have tried to find if any at BA are unique and they arent appearing so - or at least I cant with a quick search. All should do it with the gear so I will try and do some investigating because youve got me curious now.

EDIT: I think its two separate things. There is an auto position on the seat belts sign (on some aircraft) that if we select flaps with them off, they go to ON and have a chime. So if flaps are selected before the 10 mins to landing - or indeed we have forgotten to turn the belts on. They will go on with a chime at flaps selection.

Did you happen to notice if the flaps caused the seat belts to come on when you had that chime at flaps selection?
right, some actual observations today on TTNP.

wasnt quite paying full attention on take off, but I am pretty sure the single bong happened when the flaps were retracted and not earlier when the gear was retracted.

on coming in to LHR, seat belt signs were already on as we already had the 10 minute call. The single bong happened when the first stage of flaps came out. This must have been around 5-6,000 ft. I had a look and the exit lights at the emergency exit rows was also illuminated. No bong when the gear came down at the usual point near twickers.

There are a few of the NEOs like this. Not sure the reason, but the lack of bong upon gear retraction gave me a bit of a startle the first time I experienced it! Looking at my flight log, it was G-TTNP, G-TTNT or G-TTNR - a NEO flight in the dark to NCL, but cant recall quite which one.

This is fascinating. Ive delved into the rather large Airbus manuals and Airbus seem to have it on their not important enough to tell the pilots (or crew) list - among many other things. It merely says for all of them it can come on and off with Flaps 1 selected or gear down. Makes no specific reference to which is which. Also seems odd that only a handful are different which perhaps indicates its a mistake.

Our matrix with all the variants and differences - theres a lot of them across the fleet unsurprisingly - says TTNA to TTNR are identical fits and that function isnt even listed as even one of the things that could be different.

It is interesting and potentially explains something I observed. I was on an A330 (OT for BA obviously) where the seatbelt sign was switched on during the descent but then went off silently when the flaps were deployed and then came back on silently during the post-landing taxi. I duly reported this to the crew but it puzzled me because until now I hadn't appreciated there was a functional link between the flaps and the seatbelt sign on some Airbus types. If the A330 has this same function then a fault in it would probably explain what I observed.

Be interesting if its a fleet of 12 or if BA decide to allocate some of their growth aircraft there and, say, have a fleet of 18 at Gatwick.

G-YMMA has been operating from LHR for the last few days and now seems to have an unusual mission tomorrow. Later tonight it fly LHR-SIN, an then after 2 hours on the ground will fly SIN-MEL.

Do these Long-haul F1 missions take the cars, the crew or both? I am struggling to conceive how many F1 cars you could get in the belly of a 777- surely not many, plus the amount of stuff they carry for repairs.

Itll be more people than kit. The kit left Bahrain last week. Theres been a move away from air lifting the entire operation, luckily itll have got underway before the current situation.

However, not all of the people had left before the weekend. That and the fact that most F1 teams, Cadillac being the new exception, are Europe based, moreover U.K. based.
