i imagine more airlines will get on board with this an BA would make sense to be in the group that follows suit quickly BUT..
and Yes it makes absolutely no sense. Either UK border services will let you in or they wont and if THEY say its ok why would airlines have any say in it.
i understand if the airline lets you on and you are denied entry it is the airlines responsibility to get you back home but .
Also from what I gather there is a HUGE amount of backlash and noise being made about this so .
if timatac gets updated to say an old passport is accepted then gate agents will accept it

Otherwise it is keep a link to the uk gov site to show the gate agent and have them discuss with their visa team if in doubt

Dual Nationals Information

Dual nationals from eTA countries claiming British citizenship must have:
- A valid British passport; or
- A valid Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode placed in a valid third‑country passport; or
- An expired British passport (issued in 1989 or later) together with a valid eTA‑national third‑country passport, provided the biographical details match in both passports.

Many thanks

Thank you all for very informative information an advice:
The practicality of my wife going landside collecting bags AND then heading to T-3 to meet me there airside is essentially zero. I assumed all was T-5
Im not that cruel ..
Seems the expired UK passport will suffice for entry.
I will try to contact BA and see if that can be verified but the information here was most helpful.
