Not sure if this is the place to post this, but WS is suspending Cuba operations until at least the end of April due to the ongoing fuel shortages.

Like AC, will operate empty southbound but carry guests back to Canada already there.

I have family who're booked on Sunwing YEG-VRA in early Mar. and noted that their advisory changed from what was this morning a flexible rebooking policy & cancellation to travel credit to an late aft. update announcing an outright suspension of operations and a full refund to original FOP so knew WS was following AC and throwing in the towel on all Cuba operations given the situation.

Heres a summary of the routes dropped for this summer:

YYC-RDU
YYC-OGG
YYC-FLL
YEG-SEA
YEG-SFO
YEG-ATL
YEG-ORD
YEG-BNA
YEG-YUL
YVR-BOS
YVR-BNA
YVR-TPA
YVR-SFO
YVR-SAN
YVR-MCO
YVR-YUL
YVR-YOW
YLW-SEA
YYZ-LAX
YYZ-LAS
YWG-ATL
YWG-LAS
YWG-BNA

YYC-HNL has a brief suspension from late April until June 27.

I havent fully reviewed all the domestic changes, but it seems at least some of that has gone to domestic increases as well as more flights to Mexico / Caribbean.
That basically wipes out WSs trans border ops in YEG and YWG eh? 😬 Im sure YYC-OGG will be back next winter. Cant speak for the rest of the drops.

True for YWG. However, YEG still has WS flights to LAX, MSP, PHX (granted, only once a week) and perhaps other US destinations.

The 787 is not on YYC-OGG, YYC-PVR, or YYC-HNL for W27

To accommodate So Paulo ops perhaps? I would have preferred them to pull PVR and SJD instead.

In Dec 2025 total arrivals in OGG from YYC was 3,548 seats (average 114 people per day), so 787 service is hard to sustain with those numbers. Best with 5 or 6 MAX 8s flights per week to service that market: https://www.hawaiitourismauthority.o...mber-2025.xlsx

Neither PVR or SJD show the 787 either.

So far for next winter its just:

YYC-LHR/CDG/NRT/GRU/CUN

FCO and ICN both go into November then come back in March.

Supposing this is the death rattle of the Cuban regime, how many airplanes worth of flying is going to be impacted if Cuban resorts are effectively shuttered for the foreseeable future.

yea, but now the 787s arnt being as heavily utilized. Id predict that sick And FCO will be made year round for W27, or some matenence is planned. They are going to be 8 years old this winter.

I should also note that CUN is currently scheduled 2x daily (well 13x weekly) so in order for either ICN or FCO to be extended theyd have to cut at least one of those frequencies.

Even with GRU at just 3x weekly it still eats up a full frame for the whole week to itself.

I didnt realize how much capacity WS had in Cuba. Something like 97x weekly on 60ish routes to 8 destinations.

Including connecting traffic, that would be the equivalent of about 10-12 planes.

I've long predicted that YYC-FCO will eventually go year-round as Rome is a year-round destination. Surely the YYC-CUN demand can still be accommodated without tying up two 787s on that one route in winter season.
