Also, there have been attempts to make forced arbitration clauses illegal in the USA from both sides of the aisle, including Gaetz. It is self-evident that such clauses are an abomination but one must play within the rules of the game as they have been set.

A little note of churlishness from you there perhaps, CIHY ..?
I personally would never have been enticed by this particular offer. But I HAVE been the beneficiary of one or two error fares over the years. Did you ever harbour a similar sense of resentment towards anyone who successfully flew in such scenarios ?

It absolutely is, but these big companies wouldn't bat an eyelid about doing something morally wrong to bang a bit more profit in the bank (like forcing everyone to sign a new contract or be sacked at the start of the pandemic just as an example). I know two wrongs don't make a right, but sometimes a little retribution is sweet. I doubt very much anyone will get the 250K avios in any case.

Let’s just remind ourselves of Rule 12 before we head off down a road that is about individual posters, and not the topic at hand:
12.1 Friendly, Respectful and Welcoming
FlyerTalk is a community and is intended to be a friendly, helpful and collegial place.
Please post in a friendly, respectful, welcoming manner. 'Snarky,' unfriendly posts will not be allowed. If you don't have something constructive to contribute to a thread, please do not post.
Unhelpful posts, such as "Do a search" or those that merely comment on the worthiness of others' posts or threads are neither friendly nor welcoming and will not be allowed. If you can't be helpful or contribute substantive content to a thread, please refrain from posting.
12.2 Avoid Getting Personal
If you have a difference of opinion with another member, challenge the idea — NOT the person. Getting personal with another member is not allowed. Personal attacks, insults, baiting and flaming will not be tolerated.
FlyerTalk is a diverse, multi-cultural community. Expressions of prejudice or discrimination in any form are not permitted (such as those concerning race, nationality, religious belief, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, etc).
If another member gets personal with you, do not retaliate. Retaliation may well subject you to the same discipline. Instead, please use the 'Alert a moderator to this thread' button in the lower-left-hand-corner of each post, send a note explaining your concern to the moderator team, and leave it to them to handle. Please also see Rule 22 — When you believe someone has violated the rules.
12.3 Disruptive or repetitive posting
Posts that are inflammatory, inciting or unnecessarily provocative are not allowed.
Disrupting a forum by repetitively posting comments of the same general theme or 'piling-on' by posting merely to reinforce or bump a prior post of a disruptive nature are both examples of disruptive posting and not permitted.

Everyone's entitled to their feelings. This seems like a particularly bizarre hill to die on for a variety of reasons. BA/Kate Spade/the shopping mall made an offer for a short period of time. People acted in line with that offer. Those companies are now (apparently) honoring that offer. For what it's worth, Kate Spade's offered me 70 percent in rebates on purchases I've made through their store in the past through another portal, so I don't see this as particularly out of line for them.
You wrote that this was mortally wrong - I'm going to assume you're arguing it's morally wrong. I'm not sure how that's morally wrong when we're dealing with companies who charge massive premiums for handbags that cost a fraction of that amount of money to produce. Or with an airline that routinely lies about their EU261 responsibilities hoping that it'll stop people from pursuing what they deserve. Or who don't protect customer data after writing in the checkout process that it's safer to store our data with them than enter it in each time. Or anything and everything regarding the Dirty Tricks scandal with VS.
I don't suspect that we'll find common ground on this issue, so I'll leave my feelings there.
