Future SAS intra-Europe hub strategy ?

With SAS now being in Skyteam, there's incentive for me to fly paid tickets and redeem my Flying Blue miles with them.

But with SAS having been in *A so long, it clearly still maintains a lot of schedules and ticket sales with LH (boo ). As someone based out of FRA, do you think SAS will ever increase frequencies on its own metal to the German destinations it used to rely on LH for ? For example, there's no way for me to fly FRA - ARN without going through CPH, which adds time.....and even the CPH frequencies on Cityjet are not daily during the summer season. And intercontinental flights often end up being multiple stops in Scandinavia and expensive with a LH leg in there. I am also not 100% sure on the status points earnings, although I assume (hope) a SAS codeshare on LH will still earn FB XP because it's Skyteam marketed, but that's OT here.

So over time, do you guys think SAS will adjust its scheduling and frequences to feed more traffic into CPH and ARN (like AF KLM) ?

SK-marketed LH-operated would not earn FB XPs. If a flight is not marketed by AFKL but is marketed by an FB partner, it will only earn XP if it's operated (or effectively wet-leased/capacity-purchased) by a SkyTeam member.

I expect that it's a longer term plan to have SK fly the FRA routes and move to FRA T2.

SK is already at T2 FRA next to AF KLM and understaffed as usual.

Whenever I try anything intercontinental, it usually routes on LH, SK doesn't seem to have its network switched yet. Even at CPH, SK and AF KLM are different terminals and luggage handlers.

SGH (SAS Ground Handling) lost LHG as a customer in 2019, way before SAS left *A. It is completely normal for alliance partners to have separate ground handlers, even in hubs. Landside, both AFKLM and LHG have been in terminal 2 for a while with SAS in terminal 3 (the terminal distinction does not make sense airside).
SGH was ordered to shed other customers -- only being allowed to handle SAS -- for a while as part of the reconstruction a few years back as a premise for receiving state support. I do not know how long this lasts, but I do not foresee them starting to handle AFKLM anytime soon.

SK has added VIE sa a replacement for former OS codeshares, and has since added a second frequency, as well as boosted capacity of the first frequency (Embraer > A320) so they're clearly doing something in that regard. But FRA is a very busy airport and not the most popular destination in its own, so I guess it's not high on the growth list.

Only from CPH, OS is still rocking 3 full flights to ARN with SK 0. Hopefully one day SK figures out there is business to be had there. I generally feel those flights carry more Sweden than Austrians/others.

Well, CPH is the main hub for SK and where the most connections are available. ARN would be more point-to-point so it's obviously a lower priority. That being said, given the apparent success of VIE-CPH, hopefully ARN will follow soon.

For anyone dreaming about multiple SK frequencies to VIE, they currently have two planes parked next to each other there 😀 One is the regular evening frequency from CPH (which was 100% full today - Monday evening at the end on January!) and the other is diverted SK1761 originally destined for Prague.

Things will start to change in 2027, when SAS Link begins taking delivery of 45 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. Their reduced costs (both fuel efficiency and labour costs, via SAS Link) could potentially open up more frequencies on European routes.

I see SAS basing E295s in ARN - just look at the Porter strategy with YOW...neglected for years for service by AC and now the biggest carrier in YOW. ARN is being snubbed too and its many times bigger than YOW too.....so hopefully they get a lot more service and maybe more longhaul soon.
