There used to be exception routes for full meals under 900 miles and a cold meal offered between ~550-899 miles, but both were eliminated during Covid. Similar to BA, the competition on domestic J doesnt compete on F&B offerings so AA currently has no incentive to change. If memory serves me correctly, Delta was intent on not bringing their full meal service back, but essentially caved as their competition (UA, AA) brought hot meals back.
For me, the option of a hot meal in CE after coming off a short TATL flight where Im not having breakfast followed by a tight connection is a good option to have. Hopefully BA gets enough feedback to roll the changes back or just comes clean on why they are doing this versus making up odd excuses on the cabin crew spending more time with passengers etc.

Somewhere on Facebook (reach for garlic and cross) there was some pompous old man who has flatulence I am trying not to use rude language. He thought that it was a smart move by BA. Him and the Vegetarians might agree with him. I don't. This is an option that is as hold as flying itself and people enjoy it. I do not know whether people would go as far as not booking because there was no breakfast any more that I know whether people didn't book because of Brunchgate but it just makes for a drearier experience. Britain is in a cold climate and a cooked breakfast is usually welcomed.
Make no mistake - airline cuisine in general and what is slapped up at BA is never going to win any Michelin awards. It passed the time and it is about being hospitable.

Sadly, the monetary benefits of hospitality are not on the accountants‘ spreadsheets. Also, my feeling is that newer crews would rather spend time chatting in the galley than being hospitable.

This is pretty intolerable. Ill be looking to avoid Band 3 routes within those hours now. The run out to Warsaw, for example, is deserving of more than a slice of ham, half a scotch egg and whatever else they plonk on the plate. Same for Malaga, Barcelona, etc.

thank you RyanLee81, i don't think any of those changes had been mentioned before.
the big change is band 3 1400-1659 losing the hot meal to a ploughman's.

Be a shame not having a hot meal to/from Gibraltar anymore though, tend to always take the later flights both ways so the returns would on most days always now fall into this period. Whats driven that change? I'm sure it's for our own good but they're hardly lacking in available service time.
Will the 4 > 4B changes be across the board to ALL flights over 4hr? i.e. also those at Gatwick

Its just pathetic, and an insult to the intelligence of a loyal customer base.

In order to spend more time with customers? Such enhancement rubbish. In my long experience of BA, the majority of crews will serve quickly to spend any free time chatting in the galley, incl the captain for 20 mins on my last flight. Long ago when LHR - AMS was scheduled as a 60 min flight, it was often 40 mins in the air, and they still managed to serve a 3 course tray which included a small fillet steak, with a wine run. You might even get a coffee if seated in the front rows.
