Partner award fee refund?

Hi,

I booked two tickets on CX using Atmos a week ago, but I cancelled them both within 7-8 hours. I was refunded the tax, but not the partner award fee yet. I emailed their refund department - but just so that I know - they still refund those fees correct?
Thanks!

If you cancel within 24 hours everything will be refunded to the original form of payment, including fees. That's the law. It may take a few days, but you will get everything back, just relax and wait.

It will all be refunded, but likely at different times.

I recently cancelled a partner award within 24 hours and the fee refund appeared on my credit card 2 days later. If I recall there was no notice anywhere I was due the refund (which I am), whether email or online, but it arrived quickly so no complaints. After a week it's probably good to followup.

incorrect, I have had this fee refunded on AA tickets that were cancelled ~12 hours after booking, and as others stated, that is the policy for cancellations made within 24 hours of booking

Not just policy but a DOT mandate. However, this mandate only applies when booking directly with a US airline. It does not apply when booking through a third-party travel agency or when booking with an international airline.

I believe the DoT rule applies to all flights that touch any US territories on any airlines (US or international), irrespective of how they're booked.

Does the 24-hour refund/reservation requirement apply to tickets purchased or reserved through a travel agent or online travel agency?
  • No, the 24-hour refund/reservation requirement for airlines does not apply to tickets booked through online travel agencies, travel agents, or other third-party agents. However, these agents are free to apply the same or similar procedures to provide equivalent or similar customer service.
  • If you purchased your ticket through an online travel agency (or other agent), you should contact the travel agent directly to obtain a refund before contacting the airline.

Ahem, how exactly does one book an AS mileage award with partner booking fee with a travel agency or partner airline?

The DoT rule is generic, not specific to partner award bookings. My comment about direct bookings was just an FYI.

This paragraph does not exempt an "international airline". They are not exempt. The rule applies to all tickets sold by airlines where the itinerary is subject to DoT regulations.
