Global Airlines - a competition for BA?

The A343 are exactly the same fuselage and wing as the A330-300. The A343 came first (in the mid 1990s) and the A333 only became viable when the next generation engines came along in the late 1990s. Lufthansa operates a fleet of 14 A343 while it awaits the arrival on B789 and seems to keep the 20+ year old aircraft running. That may be all fine and dandy for LH, but probably not really good for a startup like Global.

It's a Hi Fly A343 that's already been sold to Zimbabwean startup FlyX and is due for delivery shortly.

Literally exactly that.

The A340 is currently on lease to Surinam Airways going back and forth between Amsterdam and Paramaribo... with Global branding. Can't make it up at this point.

Hifly told Business Insider that it has "no operational relationship" with Global for the A340 and that this is "solely for brand-promotion purposes" and not a true lease.

At this point, can we all agree that Global is a rich kid's vanity project and in no way competition for any airline, let alone BA?

My guess would be that they financed their outfit via some financial instrument which has a covenant that includes Global to operate some kind of wetlease by the end of the year. So Surinam Air is probably wetleasing the HiFly aircraft via Global using an ACMI contract. Remember Global was trying to get stakeholders earlier this year after rebranding into an ACMI business.

What do we think are the chances that our serial entrepreneur James will blame the situation in the Middle East for his failed business plan
