I’m on IB0713 MAD-LHR arriving LHR 0915 on Sunday 9 November which is showing as A330 and I’ve nabbed a PE seat.

Yes I don’t recall W being used for J pax on the 777 MAD service, but maybe it was at times. If so, what do they do with the seat config? CE promises a window or aisle, so presumably they block the middle two seats. What about the window pairs?

I think this is the reason W isn't generally used for J on the 777, as on the 767 the 2-2-2 configuration of W was what you'd have got in CE.

When I flew on a 787 operating to AMS a few years ago, CE were offered Club World seats, while ET passengers were able to select either the WT or WTP cabins. But at check in I realised that I had been moved to the WT cabin. CE remained in CW. I presumed they would have allowed people to stay in WTP if WT had been full (or close to it).

There’s a need for a widebody at some point in the morning/early afternoon for cargo - essentially bridging the early morning arrivals to London from HK and the late evening departures from Madrid to South America - and with IB’s latest expansion taking up two more A330s it’s BA that’s picking this up again.
Would be curious to know though if the restrictive pilot agreement is still in place, if any of our insiders care to share this?

777 pilots wouldn’t get out of bed for less than 3 days’ pay, so for Madrid flights they used to have to be rostered three days in a row and given a Heathrow hotel for the two nights. It’s one of the reasons IB took up the morning rotation, as their crew didn’t have the same restrictive (and expensive) condition.

I note yesterday a 777 did a LHR - Barcelona return on BA406/BA407 (the number for which becomes the Tel Aviv flight from today onwards).
I doubt it’s related to the Madrid flight, but I wonder why they used a triple on this route.

One off cargo shipment or a cruise ship booking are most likely.
