AF Upgrade Policy
Hello there,
I'm curious about your experiences with free upgrades on AF Flights as Flying Blue Gold/Silver member.
I recently traveled from JFK to CDG with Delta but booked via Air France. At priority check-in, the woman checked for an upgrade, which she, unfortunately, could not process as I booked via Air France and not directly via Delta. So, for my next flight, should I book with Air France only if I choose to fly their own operated flights, or is the probability for an upgrade so low that it doesn't matter? How is the Air France policy on upgrades?

You can have paid upgrades with AF at checkin but certainly not free upgrades, unless for an operational reason as said by other posters.
And, unless I am mistaken, DL doesn’t give free upgrades on international flights.

I believe Y+ must be oversold or economy oversold which would cause also op ups from Y+ to J to make room for Y pax to Y+. If you were in economy, the best scenario in operation upgrades would be upgrade to Y+ for you. Imho silver status is like Tesco card.

If flying on AF metal, you can usually buy an upgrade at check-in. Otherwise, it's an op-up you're hoping for. Keep hoping. At platinum, I fly a bit, and maybe see an op-up once a year (tonight was my lucky night this year, alas intra-Europe)

In your post, from my experience, I would rather say sometimes instead of usually . This is never guaranteed and, when available, the price may not be acceptable at all !

If you take one of those, be it with AF or KL, do you get XP for the original or the upgraded cabin?

And, to be fair, the only time I ever saw #10 was some years ago winter holidays. My wife was gold. I was platinum. The SAS flight to AMS went tech, and they had to accommodate them all on KLM, so we got the upgrade. Bonus: SAS loaded the extra catering, and they gave it to us. You can imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth that followed a Wanders box denied.
