I'm curious about your experiences with free upgrades on AF Flights as Flying Blue Gold/Silver member.

I recently traveled from JFK to CDG with Delta but booked via Air France. At priority check-in, the woman checked for an upgrade, which she, unfortunately, could not process as I booked via Air France and not directly via Delta. So, for my next flight, should I book with Air France only if I choose to fly their own operated flights, or is the probability for an upgrade so low that it doesn't matter? How is the Air France policy on upgrades?
