new roller bag on kickstarter
just discovered this carry on, not sure how know already
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...by-peak-design
i watched the whole video, and I know many here dislike the clamshell design..however not still sure this is what i'd buy.
Also, it's 3.9kg, while I am considering the Travelpro Maxlite or Samsung Nuon, which are around 2.5kg

I like a lot of the design features, but it also looks like it has too much "organization", which just takes up extra space, especially that front pocket. I carry a separate laptop bag, so it is wasted space.
My big problem is I would need to look at it before buying it. And it's not like you can return it on kickstarter.

my issue is, with carryon, i do not need the strongest or most durable bag, so im not sure about a $425, least to say $600, bag

I am currently backing this bag, but am unsure if I'll keep my pledge. Always looking for a new carry on, but I am very happy with my G-Ro "6" I've been using for the last 6-7 years after supporting their kickstarter.
I don't need a lot of gadget pockets in my over head carry on as it stays up top in the bin.
I'm currently looking at the luggageworks dot com "Stealth 22" as l saw a quick video on social media this morning.

In this case I'd assume the usage of Kickstarter is basically to generate a bit of hype for the project as well as to ensure a bigger order backlog before the first products are even produced.
Parts of the design I really like - however there are a few downsides for me:
Parts of the design I really like - however there are a few downsides for me:
- It's a little bit too big - it won't be fitting as hand luggage in quite a few European carriers (the LCCs that insist on 20 cm max. width for sure but even for the major carriers it's a bit too tall)
- For a non metal body it's heavy
- There's no integrated lock - any lock you attach always runs the risk of getting stuck in a conveyor.
- Unless I overlooked something, the tie-downs seem to be positioned relatively high up. Any time your luggage isn't two thirds full they won't perform their function

Do people actually use all that organization? Laptop in roller bag? I travel a lot (as we all do) and travel a lot with collogues. I've never once seen anyone w/ a laptop in a roller bag.

Received my bag, but won't be using it until mid October. There already has been numerous reports of the squeaky clamshell hinges (fix WD40 [?]) and also problems with the carbon fiber handle. Most handle problems seem to be associated with the black bags (my order is a brown color.)

They need to pay the factory for the majority of the 1st run, before the production run even starts (many times with bags like this it's around 75%, because raw materials make up more of the cost than labor). Then they need to pay for 100% of the order before it ships.
Peak Design is still pretty small, and a lot of their sales have slim margins after they pay the influencers their cut, and their market really is pretty small as well mainly geared to the enthusiast photographer and videographer, so I wouldn't say they do tons of business.
