SYD > MAN | LHR T5 departure / arrival lounge

Hi all,

Would appreciate some suggestions and advise please. I am travelling from Manchester to Sydney and back for the first time. Excited and lucky to be in CW and nervous at the same time, especially the short break in SIN in outbound (return is BA16/BA12 so have around 2.5 hours). I have done some reading on the forum and have an idea on what to expect.

One question in the return leg though. SYD>SIN>LHR is business class but the final leg, LHR to MAN is economy. Singapore flight arrives at 06:30 and departure to Manchester is at 08:55. Ideally I would like to get a shower and have a bite to eat at Heathrow.

1. Am I right in saying, for LHR > MAN, T5 departure lounge access is not available as my onward ticket is economy. Is this correct?
2. It appears I can use T5 arrivals lounge but not sure if this will work as my connecting flight to MAN is from T5 as well. Is this feasible at all? Do I need to exit and go back through security?

Any advise and other suggestions are hugely appreciated.
Thanks in advance x

Assuming its all on one ticket, you should have access to T5 lounge before your LHR-MAN due to OW long haul lounge access rules:

- If you are on the same plane (BA15/BA15) the short break in SIN is no issue as you get on exactly the same plane and gate you were off from. If you are quick you could go to a lounge (QF J, QR or BA J) but do not dally around as security is at the gate. Safest lounge will be the BA lounge as they will call the flight. They will make some announcement to be back at the gate in 30-45 mins but you can most of the time ignore that, and just look at the gate close time.
- You will need to do security in LHR connecting anyway, that said I would not bother with the arrivals lounge, just yourself through and then to the showers in Galleries South.
- As above you will have access to the Galleries airside lounge in LHR - just show your BP. Odd that it was in Y - is it an award ticket?

- If the flights are not on one ticket then let us know, as that changes a lot of the advice.

There are lots of threads on how to cope with the short SIN sector and the god awful BA arrival time into SYD. I would be focusing on that more than transit times.

On question 1, it doesnt have to be on the same ticket. The op has access to the galleries club lounges on the basis of their inbound SIN-LHR flight so will need to keep hold of their bp to show that at the lounge entrance. They would also have access to the landside arrivals lounge.

Thank you all, appreciate the advise.
It is a single booking, booked using Avios and there was no business available for LHR>MAN sector.
Will keep the boarding pass for the long haul to show it in Heathrow lounge, fingers crossed.

I might do the arrivals lounge in your shoes, mainly because there are far more showers there and the wait can be substantially less (breakfast is also a tad better). Presuming you can use the e-gates, you'll have plenty of time.

Thanks. e-gate has never worked for me for some reason. I am guessing if I exit the arrivals area for the arrival lounge, then I would need to go back through Security for departures, whereas there is a direct internal way for connecting flights. I stand corrected though.

no real difference. For your connection you would need to go through immigration and security whether you stayed airside or went landside.

Hi

Connecting back from SYD/SIN to MAN, even if you stayed airside you would need to clear transit security at LHR (Outbound from MAN -LHR-SIN ,there would be no security at LHR as domestic to international transfers at LHR T5 do not need another security check
