We had a wonderful stay at the Centric with great breakfast. I like the concrete aesthetic.
We used the Smart park on yamhill. It was Thanksgiving weekend, so maybe less busy than usual, but it was great value to us. Fair price to park.

The SmartPark recently went back to regular (i.e. higher) rates during the week, so it's not the best deal anymore. Weekends continue to be very affordable. I'm planning on giving the parking spot noted a handful of posts up thread a try next week while I'm there and will report back.

Update on the parking. I tried the private church lot noted above. It's very secure for the neighborhood but only slightly cheaper overnight than the SmartPark. It was $17 for the night, ~5:30pm-7:30am. The SmartPark was $20 for the night, ~4:30pm-7:30am. Overnight street parking isn't the safest, but there is usually plenty of it downtown and it's free outside of the meter hours.

Aroma?
Ditto the recent posts about excellent breakfast. And WAY above-average coffee compared to usual nationwide horrible Hyatt brew. Just way a cut above.
Aroma: Is it just me, or is the sickly floral lobby aromatizer turned up to 11? Such strong perfumey waft all over the lobby, stronger the closer one gets to the front desk.

Sometimes I can smell it on the street as I'm walking towards the hotel entrance, it's very distinctive.

Truly terrible. I recommend telling the hotel about it, it’d be a great place if it wasn’t for that god awful deodorizer.

Wrapping up probably my 12th stay here over the last year+. My only real beef with this hotel is they completely fail to recognize repeat customers. I always get asked "Is this your first stay with us?" to find out if they need to give me the spiel about the property. The upgrade, if any, is always to a slightly higher, but identical room. Not the end of the world, but there are so many other hotels in downtown PDX that recognize and reward repeat customers that I'll start staying elsewhere more frequently.
Breakfast is solid. Very good by hotel standards, average at best by Portland standards. Globalists can "get whatever [they] want" from the menu. Way better coffee within easy walking distance (Never, Stumptown, Water Avenue, Roseline, Case Study, etc.)
Staff are always great.

I fully agree with everything you said, though.
