Discussion of the discontinued Sears MasterCards which earn ThankYou Points has been moved to a separate thread, HERE.

Application link for the Shop Your Way (SYW) MasterCard is HERE.

Accumulating points, expiration, and redemptions:
You can accumulate SYW points in some of the following methods:
  • Bonus offers sent to your email (ie: Spend $750 on Online and get 200,000 SYW Bonus points)
  • Regular spend - categories: 5% in gas, 3% in grocery/restaurants, 2% in SYW Merchants, 1% everywhere else
  • "Missions" in the SYW App (iPhone/Android)
Expiration of points:
Not all points have the same expiration timeframe. Some bonus/incentive points expire in 30 days or less. Most are 1 year. You can check in the SYW app, or the shopyourway.com website. Make sure to redeem the points before they expire!!!!

Redemptions:
You can only redeem $200 worth per day. So if you redeem for a $200 GC, you have to wait until the next day to make another redemption of any amount.

Credit Line Increases
This is very odd, but according to the Chatbot on the website:
Q. When requesting a credit limit increase, is the credit inquiry a hard or soft credit inquiry?
A. Unfortunately, until we process the request, there isn't a way for us to know if a credit line increase request will be a soft or hard hit on your credit report. For this reason, we have to receive your permission to pull a copy of your credit report before we process the increase request. If you process the request online, you will see a message stating "By submitting this form, you authorize Citibank, N.A. to obtain your credit report."

To request an increase online:
In order to request an increase, you will need to go to your “Credit Home” page, and find “Available Credit” at the top of the page. Then, click on the link that says “Request Increase” to begin the process.

Also got the $70 on $1000 online spend. Haven’t got the 200-250k offer in a while but at least I’m still getting offers.

I received the 250k points for $1000 online spend. I've received the $70 for $1000 online spend for the past few months. Nice to get an upgrade!

This evening when I logged in to Citi's syw.accountonline.com , the Current Balance was $150 less than what I saw yesterday.
However, the Account Activity still does not show the statement credit.
I am guessing that will show when the statement closes tomorrow.

Today I also received the email with 250K points for $1000+ online spending.

Which gift cards are you redeeming the 250K points for?

When they have the 5% points rebate, I redeemed a bunch for the $200 VGC. It's a PITA to use, but I found I can add to Apple Pay and then it's fairly easy for the stores that take it. Most will let me split payment.

I'm also bathroom remodeling so Home Depot and Lowe's are also useful.

For the 3,000 -10k points that expire in like 3 weeks, I usually redeem for Amazon GC.

I usually redeem for Amazon GCs. I spend enough at Amazon so that I'll use it eventually, although probably not immediately.

Hmm, this got me thinking. I have some recurring charges that don't earn 5% on my credit cards. They code as medical, education, insurance or charity. I wonder if I can use a VGC to pay those. If so, it would make sense for me to spend my SYW points on VGCs instead of Amazon GCs.

Have you found it difficult to use VGCs on such websites as you mention they're a PITA to use.

I redeemed my most recent 3000 points for Amazon gift cards. Easiest to do since it gets all added to one pot whereas with Walmart each gift card is separate and distinct.

I can't speak to specifically the SYW VGCs, but I have had no problems in using VGCs in general to pay medical bills not covered by insurance.
It also worked to pay the water+sewer bill although I got charged 2.95% fee, but I am ahead still by 2.05%

I don't have Apple Pay but have Samsung Pay.
I should give that a try.

The quick expiring points, I redeemed for Amazon gift card too.

Guide to Benefits

P2 recently received a World Mastercard upgrade on the SYW card and in the envelope was a Guide to Benefits. I’ve never actually seen the guide to benefits and it isn’t online. For anyone interested here it is. SYWMC is one of the very few card to retain Price Protection.

For the "Online purchases" requirement, does Paypal work when buying online or does it have to be direct with the merchant?

It’s been a while since I did PayPal, but I think it varies depending on the merchant despite the payment going through PayPal. You’d think it would always be an online transaction though. I think some of the purchases I made didn’t trigger the “card not present” alert while others did.

I made donations using Paypal to two orangutan rescues in Indonesia, and they coded as buying online.

EDIT: I am wrong. Paypal does not code as online.

Every time I try to buy gift cards and use Walmart pay to pay for the transaction the walmart app just stop the payment for security purposes and tells me to use another payment method.

Since I had another sub offer to do on a BoA CCR card, I decided to use that card and the transaction went through just fine on the app. Then when I tried it again on my SYW card, the app just stop the transaction again and tells me to use another payment method. I tried it again a third time but this time I had the gift card be only $5 and the transaction went through just fine on my SYW card via Walmart Pay. Anyone know how to solve this issue? I tried calling in both SYW and Walmart and both have no idea what I'm even talking about and point fingers at each other. I'm hoping I'm not stuck with buying $5 walmart gift cards here, because it is not feasible to buy in small amounts with such high spending requirements on these SYW offers.
I ran into same issue today at Walmart. Used Walmart Pay to buy VGCs a couple of times 3 months ago. However, today Walmart Pay was not working and asking me to select another payment method.

I had problems back in July buying VISA g.c.
The app would just sit there and spin.

The second time it happened, I fiddled around with the Walmart Pay app's wallet.
I removed all the Walmart gift cards I had saved. I wasn't sure if the app was trying to use the gift cards.
I reconfirmed the CVV for the SYW card. I think this may be important. When buying online on the Walmart website, it will ask you to reconfirm the CVV of a saved credit card.
I also had other grocery items.
And it worked.
