I have two upcoming segments in F. CDG-DOH and DOH-BKK.
Pre-select dining is available for both flights. The first segments shows 6 options, while the second one shows 7 (with a weird mix of "dinner-type" mains like lamb, next to some breakfast items like a french brioche).
Is there any point pre-selecting the meal? Are there any choices available online that won't be available on the day off? Or is it the same exact selection as what I would get from the onboard menu?

If you see something you like go ahead and select it but once onboard it really wont matter too much as far as the regular dishes as you can let them know in advance everything you want. In both Q Suites & QR F I was able to get everything I wanted except one item, on QF F actually. It was the scrambled eggs and they only catered 1 and the other Pax took it. That was a bummer but I went with the omelette for my eggs choice.
Btw, that French toast is horrible. Total joke. And not b/c its a more of a bread pudding but simply b/c it is disgusting. DL's bread pudding French toast while not great is far better.

Flew last weekend BKK to DOH in F on the ex-Cathay 777. I fly quite often QR in C and I always think its a great product (service, food and seat). However I was shocked about my recent F flight.
It started about with a big chaos at the check-in for F & QR Platinum / Emerald members. I strongly assume people which werent supposed in this lane just didnt care and staff didnt managed it at all. It continued during a chaotic boarding and let half of the plane board through first class.
Inflight service (for my seat section) mainly provided by the Cabine Director which was very poor executed and slow.
Food (despite Caviar) no difference to Business. Champnager was Charles Heidsieck / Bollinger Rose.
Once arrival in Doha on remote location Business deplaned first until staff realized First class should have their own bus.
I did upgrade my flight with QCredits, so I can look over it. However no chances in this world I would pay something for such a flight / service. It was very very poor, especially by very poor service in First class.

Wondering if it is better to eat on the ground at BKK and at DOH and skip the meals altogether on board.

I personally wouldn't skip the onboard meal, but just dont expect (aside of the caviar) anything else than a meal you get in business class. I believe if you have a more attentive crew (than what I had on the same flight as you booked) the experience will be as well better. I didnt had time in Doha to visit Al Safwa Lounge as my connection was very tight (only 55 minutes) and we landed on a remote/bus stand. Crew let business class deplane first and filled the half bus with C class passengers while suddenly realizing First class passengers should have their own bus. Let me know any question as I took the exact same flight as you booked (ex-BKK).

I did use the QR Lounge in BKK, Service is excellent. I usually get myself a table in the dining area (in front of the kitchen). Staff is very attentive, food is good. However I believe I overheard they were running out of the Surf & Turf meal.

When flying in QR F, is the service standard the same across all aircraft / destination in terms of pyjamas, amenity kits, champagnes and caviar? Or does it vary by aircraft and route?
I am flying on the 21:05/00:05 flight from BKK on QR829 and wondered if this had a different offering to say the LHR sectors? I am flying on the old Cathay 777 aircraft that QR are using on certain routes.
Thanks!

I still try to get over my very very bad F flight expierences from BKK to DOH. From Check-in, Boarding in BKK, F&B and most disapointing Inflight Service by the crew to disembark in DOH... wow, lucky I just upgraded with my Q-Credits and didnt pay any $$$ for it.
