I downgraded my Aspire to the free version (they gave 2 option - Surpass or no fee) and I decided to go with no fee. No retention offers. As of today, I am still diamond. Since I am diamond after March, then downgrade, I think it is a good move.

I downgraded my Aspire card to the NF version in February, and I still have Diamond status. I even followed up with Hilton and they confirmed I would continue to have Diamond status until 03/31/2021. So looks like most people will simply lose status on April 1 of the following year of cancelling the card.

I think I'm good until 3/31/2022.

"2019 Status Extension. All members whose 2019 status was scheduled to be downgraded on March 31, 2020—whether it’s Diamond, Gold or Silver—will automatically receive an extension through March 31, 2021."

"2020 Status Extension. We are extending your 2020 member status through March 31, 2022. This means you will continue to enjoy all the Diamond, Gold or Silver benefits you have access to today for the next 24 months."

I think if you had waited until after March (downgrade in April) then due to the extension, it would last until 2022. But you didn't know. Still - you may just get lucky and it will continue on until 2022.

Thanks. Mostly a Marriott guy, but will certainly need Diamond for my visit to the Waldorf Astoria in the Maldives in 2021

I just called Hilton and was assured that whatever status you are holding right will continue through March 2022 irregardless of Which AMEX card you hold...if any.

Just found this on the Hilton website:
  • 2019 Status Extension. All members whose 2019 status was scheduled to be downgraded on March 31, 2020whether its Diamond, Gold or Silverwill automatically receive an extension through March 31, 2021.
  • 2020 Status Extension. We are extending your 2020 member status through March 31, 2022. This means you will continue to enjoy all the Diamond, Gold or Silver benefits you have access to today for the next 24 months.
  • Rollover Night Extension. All nights you earn this year from stays between January 1 through December 31, 2020, will automatically be carried over to the 2021 calendar year and count towards your 2021-2023 Tier Status. Note that this update will be reflected in your account by the end of this year.
  • Points Extension. We will pause the expiration of all Points scheduled to expire between now and December 31, 2020.
  • Weekend Night Rewards Earned on Eligible Hilton Credit Cards. We have extended the expiration date of all unexpired Weekend Night Rewards as of March 11, 2020, and all new ones issued until August 30, 2020, through the end of next summer (August 31, 2021).

I downgraded to Surpass as well on June 2019 and somehow I am Hilton Diamond also. I called to check when it would last and the rep said my status would expire March 2022.

Wife cancelled her Aspire in February of this year. She is still a Diamond and will be a Diamond through March 2022 (per conversation last month with Hilton customer service).

In the Hilton app, I noticed it says earn 120k in points per year to renew Diamond. I just made it over via spend for 2020, does that mean if I downgrade the card Diamond won't be clawed back because it's been earned anyway?

Usually the Asipre's airline credits pay for the AF, but it's difficult to use in this coronavirus hysteria environment.

It should say: Earn Diamond with 60 nights, 30 stays, or 120,000 Base Points. Base points are earned by staying at hotels, not through card spending. However, you should research Hilton's current status renewal/extension policies due to the pandemic, which may not be reflected in the app.

How long will HH diamond status last after Aspire downgrade or cancellation (now that freebie covid status extensions are dead)?

When is best time to cancel / downgrade? April after Hilton account updates to reflect status extension through following March?

Obtaining HH diamong status through Aspire is like obtaining through stays and nights: in a given year, if you earn the diamond, then the diamond will last until March of the following year, regardless the Aspire card status. That is said, if you have Aspire for Jan 1 2023, then the diamond will last until March 2024. So in theory, you can downgrade on Jan 2, 2023 while keeping diamond until March 2024. But whether this would make Amex/HH angry, I do not know .....

The worst case is, once you find your status is downgraded from diamond, upgrade to Aspire, then you will be back to diamond within 1 day. No hassle!

Diamond status through Aspire now seems to last only 3 months after I downgraded last month. About a week after downgrading, I got an email from Hilton listing the 3 month date my status would change.

So status downgrades are now being processed/communicated to Hilton a lot more quickly, but it's good there's at least a 90 day period before it goes into effect.

I have some Hilton stays booked for my trip to Japan in October (Conrad Tokyo and Hilton Nagasaki).

If I get the Aspire Card now, will my Diamond status automatically be reflected on these reservations?

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that existing reservations made prior to getting the Aspire Card have to be manually updated to reflect Diamond status.

Confirming that this is still the case. Downgraded late last week, yesterday I got an email from Hilton that "your tier status has changed" and that my (Diamond) status will last another 90 days.
