Would you contact the front desk for an upgrade, or just ignore ?

I would have asked at check-in.

That said, if a hotel gives me a crappy room, I don't hesitate to ask for a better one. It's best to do that immediately, so they don't have to clean the room you're rejecting.

Shame that this hotel doesn't have any train or metro stations within walking distance.
Bus seems to be the only way to get to/from here with public transport.

Having lived a few blocks away, I'd consider U Nollendorfplatz walking distance

walk & spa

I have a 3-night stay upcoming in the New Year. From past experience, you can take a bus (in front of the hotel) every 10 min. I prefer to walk to the CBD.........10 minutes?
As for suite upgrades, be careful what you ask for. I had one once which had a bizarre shape. IMO, the best thing about this property is the spa!

Currently the Sheraton Berlin is the only open Marriott Bonvoy property in Berlin. All food outlets, the club lounge and the spa are closed due the local regulations during the coronavirus pandemic. So pretty basic offering, but room appears to be super clean and they provide a free bottle of water. As Ambassador I received an upgrade to a high-floor room, which is totally fine given that they have closed off all suites. Only front desk staff on site at the moment. Grateful that the hotel is operating for people like me who still have to travel.

pandemic stay

That's friggin' wild. + the rate of the day is great @ 107 euros!
I cancelled my stay in February & switched to the Marriott. The Marriott BTW is easily accessible via U-Bahn, S-Bahn & metro.
Travel safe!

Does anyone know why 2022 room rates are about 950 Euro PER night? I just booked 6 nights for May 2022 at this hotel for 150,000 points, but cash price was over $6,000 USD. I looked through the hotel's rate calendar and all of 2022 has this eye popping room rate. By far the most expensive cash price in all of Berlin, by multiples.

New Concept

Deutsche Finance International has acquired the Sheraton Berlin Grand Hotel Esplanade from Archer Hotel Capital and Event Hotels at a cost of 116€. They plan to convert the property into a first class mixed use complex that will include offices, restaurants and bars in addition to a rejuvenated hotel. The plan is to maintain hotel operations during much of the work.

116€ is a great price to get a hotel for. I would have happily paid two hundred euros for my own Sheraton.

Has anybody stayed here recently? Do not care much about upgrade, just breakfast must be great and lounge ideal to have a few drinks in the evening before heading out?

Stayed here recently.

Pros:
Location is good
Close enough walk to the U-Bahn or right next to a popular bus stop with M29, 100, etc. running
Lounge is a standard European mid-level hotel lounge
They allowed both rooms I booked to have my breakfast benefit
Super close to Tiergarten and Victory Column

Cons:
SNAs cleared to one type of suite but then they downgraded me to a lower level
Decor is from the early 90s (or earlier?)

It's a below average Sheraton for how old it is but the staff are very nice and friendly. I would consider staying again if the price is right and I need to be in that part of Berlin.

Unhappy Sheraton Berlin Grand Hotel Esplanade Closing March 2024

The Sheraton Berlin Grand Hotel Esplanade will be closing its doors March 2024

This from the Director of Convention Sales:
Thank you for considering the Sheraton Berlin for the group arriving on 24th July 2024.
We regret to have to inform you that we are unable make a proposal for this group.
Our hotel will cease trading on 31st March 2024, as the owner of the property has decided to turn the building into a multi-purpose venue.
Sad to see it go, I had been staying at that property since before Sheraton when the furniture was all white leather and the bathrobes were turquoise terrycloth. They ALWAYS had great rates for Berlin, were centrally located and as a Titanium, I was ALWAYS upgraded to a Sauna Suite (it had an actual dry sauna in the suite).

Not closing

I just checked availability for July 2024 and the system is accepting reservations. I guess they’ve decided not to close.
