Hey all,
I would need ca 34k tier points in order to reach Platinum, and as I'm so close now it would feel stupid to waste the opportunity.
Any tips from the more seasoned FT veterans on finding routings to do this as cost-effectively as possible?
I found some HEL-LHR-JNB roundtrips in eco flex for ca 600€ which would seal the deal but also include a 4-day stay.
Thanks.

Did you consider exchanging 102k award points into 34k tier points?

Asking for a friend who has no status. He is flying from the US to Finland on AA + AY. First leg is AA domestic with an AA flight number, second leg is AY transatlantic with AY flight number. He bought a Light ticket and fare rules say no free checked bags, first checked bag 70 EUR. I understand that he can pay 70 EUR at the check-in desk when checking in for the first leg. But is there any way to prepay, maybe at a cheaper price? It seems not to work on either airline's website.

I still got a gold card to gift. Is there some exchange on this Finnair forum?
I got one flight with +1 that's in eco (HEL-ICN) and I would rather wish to try to upgrade it with miles or vouchers but I'm all out haha. Thought I could try to negotiate points or anything for that card. But probably not worth two LH upgrades right?

No problem checking my bag at HEL before my morning tour in Europe. I just told the check in agent Going to Delhi, please and no problems, nor any questions asked. However, because of the reports I read from here I didnt want to end up having my bag become an issue and therefore didnt book a same plane turnaround in WAW.

Note that if you use the non-Schengen lounge, you will need to pass through passport control before reaching your ARN gate, which may take some time.

I'm heading up to Muonio for an event on Tuesday and the organizers have us flying MUC-HEL-KIT. I just got the itinerary today and we're on a group rate, class G and the fare basis says GGRP. First time flying Finnair.
I set up an account just for giggles.
I can select seats when I log in under the booking and it looks like I can pick just about whatever I want for a fee, but it also looks like there is first class/business cabin that I don't have access too. Is it verboten to upgrade directly from economy to first or is there a work around?
Also, how strict is the 10kg carryon rule? I'm traveling around europe for about two weeks and I've smashed it all in to one ~20kg carryon along with my laptop satchel.

Your carryon will almost certainly not be weighed (at least it has not happened to me with Finnair) but if it looks large, you might be in trouble (forced to check it in)

On MUC-HEL, there is a business class cabin where you will be served a cold salad and some alcoholic beverages. You may upgrade with cash, go to Manage Booking on the website and look for a link there. As a rule, upgrades are not worth it.
HEL-KTT (Kittil is KTT, not KIT) is economy-only.
If your carry-on looks okay sizewise and you do not visit the check-in desk, your risk is minimal. Sometimes, agents at the check-in desk want to weigh a carry-on, but they do not have scales at the gates.

The "cabin" is just seats behind (in front of) a curtain with the middle seat blocked. You can upgrade if there is an offer somewhere in MMB, but not by clicking the seat.

As for the carryon, if I have to pay I have to pay; I'm just really nervous about it getting lost with all my snow gear inside.

Booked HEL-JFK in Economy Classic. Why is the outbound fare class O and inbound S? Shouldn't it be Y? And why are the fare classes different between outbound and inbound? Is there a tutorial for all of these fare classes and how they work?
