It’s not quite as simple as that. Revenue managers have to make decisions on how to partition the aircraft and probably got word more business seats were needed for your flight. The exact division won’t be confirmed until you board the plane.

To clear the air up a little I thought it would be good to do a summary:

During check-in, I noticed seat 6A was free again. I picked seat 6A in check-in, and this was the seat that I was placed in! (despite the LOT app still saying 9A)

Heathrow was VERY busy at 4am, so be aware if travelling. The seats next to me were filled (172/186 seats in total!).

I thank LOT for the decent service onboard, and sending the independence livery 737 MAX!

The seat blocking is basically LOTs version of what BA calls theoretical seating.

The issues of being moved because of the business class cabin growing and shrinking is curtain roulette and common across most european airlines.

Amadeus calls it theoretical seating... LO and BA both use the same, albeit customized differently. Curtain roulette can be handled a bit better if the settings in Altea are done right.

This post is a little dated but I have had success assigning seats (AC award on LOT) by entering my LOT PNR at the SAS website. It enabled me to select seats for three passengers on 2 segments.

Used Vistara Airlines to do LOT business class seat selection

I booked a UA award ticket to travel on LOT and couldn't do seat selection. The last leg is on (India based) Vistara airlines. I was able to do LOT J seat selection using their Manage Booking. The UA award ticket had the Vistara record locator also listed. I called LOT to confirm that seat indeed took.

Not sure if this is an option for seat selection for others. Don't know if it will take if you aren't flying a segment on Vistara.

Wholly operated LO trips can’t be open with this.

So don’t bother. Use SK.

Perhaps because it's a non revenue booking.
If you booked it with miles from Miles & More, you can open the reservation on your Miles & More profile and select seats.
Otherwise, call LOT and they'll book the seats for you.

Their online seat selection is shaky, even for revenue tickets (you cannot change seats once you selected them, for example). Their online support chat should be able to reserve seats for you.

Out of curiosity: on which flight did you manage to grab an award J seat? They are very stingy with awards...

SK workaround still worked for me last week (go to flysas.com, insert Amadeus PNR number, choose seats)

Merely out of curiosity, I went to the SAS website to check one of my LOT bookings and see whether I could select seats (for the records, I had already done so on the LOT app — it’s an F fare, S for the domestic portion) and this is what I’ve got:

I am able, however, to amend seat selection on the Lufthansa app.

Weird - I was able to change seats via flysas.com and I also had an F-fare ticket.

No joy but no concern either: as you very well know, LOT's C cabins are always a Mary Celeste; the only few times I got some company was on those Warsaw-Sarajevo services with a couple of "panicking" (as of running out of breath fearing not to make it) passengers connecting from the chronically delayed LO4...

Hi LOT experts
Questions; Have several sectors with LOT in Europe in this summer all in J. One sector, BEY-WAW, shows 737max but with only 1A 1C in row one(no 1D or 1F). When I look at seat map of the 737max it shows a full row one with 4 seats?
Also, any tips on best J seat on 738 and 73Max? I've chosen row 1 out of habit on all sectors but have read leg space in row 1 on the max is excellent. Have one E175 and am in 1D and friend in 1F, OK?
First time flying LOT as I'm a OW man normally but the fares in J were amazingly cheap so we grabbed them.
Thanks for any info/tips.
