Question Boarding 757 from the front door (1L) ???

I flew DEN-ORD on Sunday Oct. 10th on a 757.
Having flown dozens of flights on UA's 757s, I remember ALWAYS boarding through the center door (2L). But for some reason, this flight boarded through 1L. Doesn't seem to be very efficient, as everyone had to walk through the 6 first class rows.
Why would they have done this, at DEN of all places?

Could have been a bad parking job, but that would make 1L even more unaccessable. At ORD, I think we still have 1 gate left where we meet door 1. We used to have a few of em. Door 1 is MUCH harder to open...the leverage isn't there, and the door opens out and up. Basicly, the gate may not have been enigeneered (lead in line, swing limit tollerances on the jetway) to accomodate door 2 on 757.

AA always boards their 757's from 1L...and I don't like it.

All those coach passengers get in the way of the FA trying to bring me a drink.

except, for some reason, at LAS. it's 2L there.

perhaps someone with more specific plane knowledge can clarify the reasons?

It may have been a jet bridge or operator issue -- it's tough to get the bridge set correctly for the 2L door and if the warnings in many jet bridges are an indication, failing to get the entrance square with the side of the plane can result in damage to the aircraft.

Could it be that this was an experiment, so that they know how long it will take to load a TED configured 757, with all passengers loading via 1L?

There are a handful of airports/gates over the years that board the 757s from 1L. Not too many.

that's the point-- it can't really be an airport issue, at least nationwide, because some lines like AA use 1L almost everywhere they go.

I'm sitting at the RCC at SAN and just saw a 757 from ORD deplane through 1L at gate 18. They do usually use 2L here. Maybe it is because of the proximity of the gate to the main terminal building.

I flew SFO-JFK last month on a 757 ( ), and on arrival at JFK we disembarked via door 1L...

Don't know if this was standard practice for JFK as this was my first time into JFK on a 757.

I flew into ORD on 142 yesterday on a 757. Due to our late arrival, our gate was switched from C-something to B6 (I believe). We disembarked via 1L. Certainly a first for me. I assumed they wouldn't bother to "re-park" it for boarding...

AA started boarding from 2L about a year ago where gate space allowed. We had one gate out of 5 at my airport where we could actually do it. So it's not frequently done, but it's now an option. I wish everybody did it that way as I really like it when I'm in first and don't have to worry about getting hit in the head with everyone walking by with their carryons.

I've deplaned a few times through 1L but I don't recall ever boarding any way other than 2L...thankfully!

Do you remember which gate it was in DEN?

All of the gates (that have envelopes big enough i.e. B46,B44,B42,B39, B45, etc. but not B15 or B16) are set up to accomodate the 757 from door 2. If the bridge was on door 1, then that means that the jetbridge CSR made a mistake, or that the plane was poorly parked. It is most likely the former.

Door 1 is an unsafe door to use for the reasons that fastair explained. It is a difficult door to open and close (employees have a higher risk of injury), it is smaller, and the boarding takes longer.

Not a practice that is supposed to take place. That aircraft is hard enough to board on time through door 2!
