what month do status changes (downgrade) occur?
My wife hasn't had enough stays/spend this yr. to requalify for Platinum Elite in 2019. What month/date do status changes usually occur? I've heard 2/1 and 3/1. Is there an officially published date? We have a couple stays in Feb/Mar that we are flexible on so don't want to miss out on any benefits.
TIA!!

IIRC the magic date always had been March 1st for MR and the same for SPG, but with the merger and the Starriott IT mess, who knows?

Hyatt Gold Passport, Marriott Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest and Club Carlson give you status for 14 months beyond the year in which you earn it. That means status earned in 2016 would last through the end of February 2018 (instead of March).

It does seem Marriott has avoided answering this question, at least from the searches I've tried. However, https://thepointsguy.com/2016/01/whe...status-expire/ does say:
... and there is nothing to the contrary that I can find. I think you will be safe planning something for Feb, but I would not try to push it out to Mar. And this is not like some of the airlines do where if you book it while valid it's good. It's got to be valid when staying.

Where did the "instead of March" come from in the quote from TPG? I'm not aware of any status lasting through March of the following year unless it's one of the systems that assigns rolling qualification year dates, such as BA.

January will be a busy month for the squirrels running on their little wheels to power Starriott's IT. I don't think they'll be able to deal with all of the legacy status issues in just one month. I think we'll see downgrades of people who should be upgraded.

Read the linked page... I quoted the text exactly, the paragraph talks about other chains too.

Status expiry
hi,
can anyone please ease advise when status levels downgrade with Bonvoy, if you dont meet the target that year?
i know they run calendar years, but have received mixed messages re between 1 and 3 months grace period for status benefits thereafter, before status downgrade?
can anyone advise with certainty please?
many thanks

Actually, I expect everyone's status will reset as appropriate on Feb 1. That's why our status now indicates through 1/31/2020. So expect your status to downgrade on Feb 1.
