It does seem Marriott has avoided answering this question, at least from the searches I've tried. However, https://thepointsguy.com/2016/01/whe...status-expire/ does say:
Hyatt Gold Passport, Marriott Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest and Club Carlson give you status for 14 months beyond the year in which you earn it. That means status earned in 2016 would last through the end of February 2018 (instead of March).
... and there is nothing to the contrary that I can find. I think you will be safe planning something for Feb, but I would not try to push it out to Mar. And this is not like some of the airlines do where if you book it while valid it's good. It's got to be valid when staying.
