AC --> TK in ORD. Long Layover wth luggage

I have a 12 hour layover in ORD with my AC flight coming in at 9:30 AM and my TK flight leaving for IST around 9:40 PM, we plan to spend the day exploring Chicago, then head back in the evening to catch the TK flight. My family is on a single AP reward ticket, while mine is split on two tickets for TK (235) and AC (014).
A few questions:
  1. From what I've read, ORD does not provide any onsite temporary luggage storage, is this still the case?
  2. Will AC in YYZ check our luggage thru to our final destination with a 12 hour layover?
  3. Are their alternative luggage storage options others have used at ORD, one thought is to see if the Hilton will keep it for the day?

You can check your luggage all the way through. You shouldn't have any issues.

You shouldn't have any problem to check bags to their final destination, at least for your family. For you, it might need more negociation, especially if you're departing apart from your family, but it's definitely possible. Make sure to be checked in for all your flights.

No storage in ORD and Hilton (and any hotels) will usually refuse to check if you don't stay there. Union Station has a bag check but you need a train ticket.

You may want to look at bagnb.com

For the split ticket, go direct to the Concierge when checking in. They can technically tag a bag onto any flight anywhere. It's not even validated. (I realised this when the Concierge in YVR tagged my bag through on a connecting flight on a separate ticket and just by chance I noticed there was a typo in the flight number for the second flight, even though the destination airport code was correct.)

Get a day room

i just had a long layover at ORD and found that getting a day room 9-6 at the Hilton was about $70. You can book it on Hilton.com by setting your check in and checkout dates to the same date.
