Very interesting, thank you very much. I thought the conventional wisdom was that HK-issued UnionPay cards couldn't be used for online transactions. Might be worth checking out what other Websites now accept Unionpay.

Sorry. Thought most on his board knew that the CX website accepts UnionPay payments. I only managed to meet phase 1 and 2 targets because of 1) CX tickets, and 2) foreign hotels and restaurants.

On a separate but related note, does anyone here have any recommendations as to whether to go for the BEA ApplePay promo to buy tickets on CX app >HK$5K for the HK$600 rebate? I now have a ticket I need to purchase that would qualify, but the "only applies to the first 1,000 successful bookings" makes me nervous. Is it better to not risk it and just plan it as part of my BoComm CUP spending? I don't suppose there's any way BEA CS would have that info or be willing to disclose how many bookings have been made that way thus far...

For those with HSBC credit card, it is really important to look at the 'approved' merchant list before you charge the card. I just spent 20+K on a Japan airlines plane ticket thinking that I will qualify under the lifestyle category. Not only did this transaction not quality, I did not even get the $6.x/AM because JAL is not on the list of any of the red hot reward categories. I got a total of 95 RC. This was a tough lesson...

I keep the 6X list as a PDF in my iBooks and Moon Reader http://www.hsbc.com.hk/1/2/hk/cards/...oice/merchants . It's one of those things you have to have like a QRH when you go out.

Someone's done worse with airline spending this week. Even I didn't realise the problem at first. I'll let him elaborate if he wants to.

I am hoping that 'someone' will step forward and make me feel better. I am ready to hit my head against the wall. Charging the JAL flight to CCB Eye would have netted me 10,000+ miles, while I received 950 miles from HSBC Visa Signature. Arghhhhhh!

I was trying to cancel my flight on my HSBC card and reissue the ticket, but it would cost me $4.8K HKD so forget it. What a terrible start to the weekend!

OT:Citi Prestige insurance benefits

Seems Citi Prestige has added a whole bunch of insurance benefits to the card, some or which are quite attractive:

https://www.citibank.com.hk/english/...tige-card.html (then click on "free travel insurance and other insurances")

Obviously have to pay with the card to get the benefits, namely:

- Travel insurance, quite low limits, but seems to be more compresensive than the usual travel accident insurance you get on other cards.

- Extended warranty: Upon expiration of the manufacturer’s warranty, the extended warranty benefit duplicates the terms of the original manufacturer’s warranty up to one (1) full year. Eligible purchases repaired or replaced for up to USD500 per claim and a maximum of USD2,000 over a 12 month period of insurance. Benefits are provided for the costs to repair, replace, or provide reimbursement for the item if it cannot be repaired or replaced.

- Purchase Protection Insurance: Purchase Protection Insurance provides coverage for loss of a Covered Purchase due to Accidental Damage or Theft occurring within ninety (90) days from the date of purchase as indicated on the store receipt. Coverage includes up to USD3,000 per claim and maximum of USD20,000 over a 12 month period. Covered Purchases include worldwide purchases subject to the terms and conditions of the policy.

- E-Commerce Protection Insurance

- Wallet Guard Insurance

- Collision Damage Waiver Insurance: Covers physical damage to rental car incurred during a covered rental. For up to USD50,000 per claim, this cover is on a worldwide basis. By using Citi Prestige Card to reserve and pay for the entire auto rental, this insurance will be automatically in force up to the stated limits and subject to the terms and conditions of the policy.

Some of these are quite commom with CC's in the US and UK, but first time I am aware of on HK issued cards (maybe apart from Amex charge card).

Edit also just to add, they are offering free Boingo wifi until the end of the year: https://www.citibank.com.hk/english/...estigeCardCCLN

Mod note: Further discussion has been moved to this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hong-...insurance.html

I remember "register hopping" at Parknshop:
- you can buy coupons with credit card including Apple Pay/Android Pay, obviosuly
- cashiers don't allow repeat purchases per visit (same card, same register and same amount), saying repeat purchases may be flagged up as duplicate billing by head office
- my Parknshop has three registers
- so I made four visits, queuing for each one (well I don't have to queue all the time) and buying $200 per register

Another card jing won $110,000 from Visa's "Hong Kong Summer Spectacular" promotion using a similar strategy six years ago http://hk.apple.nextmedia.com/news/a...10929/15657360
A small PNS store allowed me to to do multiple transactions for the $200 x 10 Android Pay promo on the same register. Got through a few cards worth of $200 Android Pay transactions. I don't think they will allow it again though. The large stores won't allow it.

Shouldn't be that bad, your JAL flight booking should be an online transaction? At least you get extra 5x RC (remember to register!).

Slightly off topic - why isn't HSBC HK offering Visa Infinite? It took them so long to offer Visa Signature. What's with the delayed release in a key market like HKG?

Probably haven't finished haggling on profit sharing and/or license fees (HSBC with its HK market share among old wealthy is probably asking Visa to give them VI for free)
