A new thread was created for the new year in 2017. This is the old thread. For the 2017 on this topic, go here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manufactured-spending/1819562-cvs-master-thread-2017-a.html
CVS is cash only for all Incomm-related reloads and reloadable cards, including Vanilla Reloads and Serve swipe reloads. See memo to stores for complete list. Other cards at CVS can still be bought using credit, but YMMV depending on location, Manager, etc.
New limits rolling out starting 10/20:
Transactions with $300 or more of card face value require ID.
Limit $2000 of card face value per 24 hour rolling period.
Limit of 10 cards per 24 hours.
Cashback posted in 48 hours.
Cash Register Freezing
Multiple reports that the CVS cash register will freeze and lock after scanning the ID when purchasing multiple prepaid cards. Then the register's computer needs to be restarted. Some report that "swiping" the ID instead of "scanning" will avoid the issue.
Limit of 7 tenders (swipes) per transaction. This is most commonly run into when using low-value AGCs. After seven, the transaction must be complete, no cash (or any other payment method) will be accepted to pay the balance.

no problems doing 4x of simon FB and fees on CC, 5 swipes total, all credit. Maybe the change is propagating slowly and will hit all stores eventually....we shall see.

My goto CVS said that the registers were updated and as a result....
chip reading is a lot faster, which i noticed a few days ago.
Split payment is still possible!
3 swipes! 2 with FB

I am going to use my FB card on CVS, A quick question here:
To get the 5% cash back automatically, I have to use the credit mode when I auto-drain
the GC(100 dollar)? And the cashier will have to input the last 4 digit? I don't know whether the cashier will care about it is a gift card or not. But sounds a little risky.
If I go debit mode, cashier needs not to do anything? But cashback may not track automatically, and I need to call?
Thanks for any tips.

If you don't have a license, a passport, passport card or military ID will work. A State issued photo ID should probably work as well.
If cvs can't scan the ID, they can enter it manually.

Ok.
After using 3 diff. Simon cards at CVS with no issue, I have not been able to use a 4th to purchase a variable vanilla or set vanilla gift card.
It gives the "card read error" and doesn't allow purchase.
Anyone else have this issue?

This happened to me today. Bought 3x OVGCs on separate transactions, when I tried the fourth it kept saying "card read error." I left the store.
