Can they even register fingerprints for an infant?
Yes.. thats what you will end up doing.

Not sure if they can register the fingerprints for an infant but give it a try as you need to take the infant for them to approve the GE application

Well we'll see what happens later this week. Do you know if I need anything besides for passport at the interview?

Passport and the authorization letter is all you need.

No... US Passport should suffice.

GlobalEntry with Infant

My wife is travelling to JFK with an infant this week. She has GlobalEntry, and our infant has conditional approval, with an appointment scheduled for the day after arrival. Anyone have experience with this kind of situation? Any chance they will be allowed to use GE kiosk/line?

Nope. ALL people in the GE line must be approved GE members. Since the infant is not, your wife has to use the regular lines. However, she can use the Precheck line, as children under 12 are allowed with someone who has Precheck.

So I have used GE with my toddler. They did not let us try the fingerprints at his enrollment. He gets the X every time and have had no issues or extra questions. Just a few clicks on the keyboard and we are done.

Unequivocally no - make sure your wife does not use the GE line (unless she doesn't value her membership).

Is it possible that an agent might let it slide? Anything is possible. But much more probable there will be consequences for your wife's membership including revocation.

Yes..There are some posts in this thread about fingerprinting infants/toddlers/young children. I seem to recall a posting that related an experience in which the reader couldn't successfully read an infants fingerprints. I believe the result was that the printed GE kiosk slip would always have the dreaded "X" which would require additional interaction with CBP personnel.

Still waiting for our( wife and mine) approval.

While I was at my interview I overheard another officer explain that fingerprints aren't usually developed enough until about age 4 so until fingerprints can be collected, those folks can't use the fingerprint reader but do just come up to the front of the regular line for their photo to be reviewed by an agent. He also said that once the kid turns 4 or so they should just come back to the interview center and wait for an officer to come out for those with appointments and let them know you're there to have a child's fingerprints added to their records.

(saw the moderator note after I posted this and there's no option apparently to let me delete and repost in the right thread, so sorry. )

Use Mobile Passport Control for this trip

I had applied for Global Entry for my 3 & 8 year old, both of them were conditionally approved this past sunday. I was able to get an appointment for my 3 year old for 6/29 and my son on 7/3 in EWR. We went for my 3 year old's appointment yesterday which they processed as expected, but they were unable to process my 8 year old although they were not that busy.

The Global Entry personnel said on any given day they only get the details of the persons signed up. So we have to do 1 more trip to the airport to get my 8 year old's global entry application processed.

Hope this helps somebody else out there.

Have been using GE for years but recently added my 1 year old. Of course no finger prints in the system. We used GE with her for the first time today. Cleared CBP today in Toronto and the officer looked at us incredibly annoyed that we were bringing our daughter through with an X. He told us that infants weren't allowed to use the kiosk and should complete a blue customs declaration. The officers that signed us up told us the exact opposite (use our finger prints and get the x). Given the ridiculous inability of CBP to not figure out a way to properly handle infants, getting an X seems to make the most sense.

Since this was the first time with our daughter I don't know if this is typical and figured I'd check. Has anyone had this happen before? Is it common? Do we actually need to fill out a declaration form just for her? Seems to defeat the whole purpose!

Never had that happen. I would complain to have him retrained.
