It almost as obnoxious as the high decibel ad they play on the PA trying to sell the darn thing (referring to DTV).

I have already had this conversation a couple of times. I am so close to 1MM that I can't bring myself to leave yet. I also have half a million miles sitting around to use for upgrades until they are exhausted and then, believe me, I have seriously considered it.
What does it matter if you get it now or in a couple years? You're letting their program work on you. You're "stuck". You may have eschewed logic, Sybok, but be logical like your half brother

UA sucks in Y. B6 is much better. Better seats, better service, better snacks, etc. No dark planes. VX is also better. AA is also better. Try it out.

They can be turned off?
yeah, you push the - for the brightness repeatedly until it goes dark.

I fly United for Star Alliance. However good or bad UA may be, *A to me is by far the best of the three programs. This is particularly true for RTW trips and those intra-european and intra-asian passes.

Oneworld is the worst. For a RTW, you have to keep backtracking to HKG in Asia and LHR in Europe.

Oh I know - also marked as the "off" button. It was more a post of surprise as that particular poster has written here 15+ times that they can't be turned off!

I was on a UA flight SFO-BOS where a male flight attendant gave instructions over the PA system on how to turn the screens off. It was a red-eye flight.

I wonder if UA wants their employees to tell you how to turn it off or if they would prefer it keeps flashing in your face with the hope you will eventually "swipe your card" and make them a little bit extra money.

Why do you think UA makes money from people using this system?

I know, I am stuck, and it is not logical, but being from the Boston part of Vulcan originally, I was accustomed to beating my head against a wall for decades before seeing the Red Sox win the world series. You find you can take a lot of punishment before making a change.

I do, however, know how to turn off the seat back TV screens, though this seems rather opposed to my original thought about no IFE.

I did try B6. And they changed the departure city on me.

Lucky enough to be on UA's 250th NextGen 737 (N69806)...woo hoo. No IFE...give me a PMCO bird and I'll be happy.

It's true though, AA ain't much better in terms of consistency. They've got every iteration of IFE possible between the Mad Dogs and brand new A319s. I like the DirecTV a whole lot better than the on demand style.

In defense of the dark bird, they are smoking through the wifi installs on these, and lots of them have Direct TV too. There are 118 of the 739's, 82 of them now have wifi, 64 of them have directTV, and only 13 of them are currently dark.

As opposed to DL and AA who are taking delivery of the planes fully loaded -- TVs and Internet?

I know, but it doesn't change the fact that there are now only a small amount of dark planes. I believe UA is taking a lot more deliveries than DL is. I'm curious what each of them paid to get from delivery to fully in service.

Which makes seeing "UA"'s deliveries look so underwhelming by comparison. They look straight out of 1991, which gives the perception the plane is old.
