Agree that the guest preference idea was nice, but only if staff then take note of your preferences! They were pretty clueless as to our food & other preferences when we stayed. I wonder why I bothered.

Not many other luxury properties to speak of... suggestions welcome!

December 2014: Greystoke Mahale (Tanzania) and Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge (Rwanda), followed by Mount Nelson in Cape Town(?)

Any recommendations for accommodations in Arusha, btw? Rivertrees is booked full, so we currently have reservations at Twiga Lodge.

My suggestions in Croatia (most of these will be maximum upscale, not luxury):

Rovinj - North Adratic

Monte Mulini hotel (LHW)

Zagreb - capital

Esplanade Hotel (this one was a member of Regent Hotels until last year, now independent, not sure if it's still Virtuoso)

Zadar - Central Adriatic Coast

Bastion Hotel (R&C)

Thanks, Trickster10! Yes, very useful. We're only spending a few days in Croatia; we'll stop by Dubrovnik but won't stay overnight as it'll be infested with tourists in July. We had actually booked Hotel Dubrovnik a few weeks ago, but decided to spend a few more days at Aman Sveti Stefan instead. We'll check out Dubrovnik, Hvar, Zagreb and Plitvice Lakes at some other time when it's not peak season.

We have booked a room at Hotel Vestibul Palace (a luxury suite in the main building, and not the annex); it seems like a very charming property in an unbeatable location.

After Split, we'll be heading over to Sarajevo. I've tentatively booked a suite at the Hotel Bristol there.

Interested to hear more about about this when you're back. It opened late last year yea? It simply doesn't impress me for some reason at first viewing from the photos. Looks a bit cold.

I'm staying at my FIRST EVER AMAN in March, at the Amanfayun in Hangzhou (comped, hotel review). *Fingers crossed* Hotel has been confirmed (waiting for official letter), not sure which room/suite they're putting me in yet. Just in the process of booking flights at the moment.

I'm also looking for ideas for Phuket in June for luxury private villas (also comped, looking to cover the stay). Any suggestions I may be able to contact?

Well , what can I say - am an Amanjunkie after all .
Point Yamu is more what you say for the interiors , not warm / soft like Amanpuri or softened by greenery . However , still impressive in their own way.
The views are rather spectacular though & the suites spacious enough. Lovely infinity pool.
Perhaps you should also check out Trisara since Puri will be having their annual maintenance closure in June. Some others are mentioned in this forum.
Pity Amanfayun will be your first Aman , hope you will like it anyway. The GM will be able to assist you with other Aman properties. Perhaps you can also stay at N'oi in June or an Indonesian one.

I have heard a few comments like that...why's that? Is the service not quite up to standard?

I'm quite looking forward to the historical aspect of it as well...I love hotels with a bit of character.

I'm just excited and looking forward to it I'd love to try more out after my first trip.

Just enjoy Amanfayun , it ' s an Aman , even if others - non staying guests - can troop by en route to the temples.

Perhaps like being in Disney in HK or Paris rather than the Disneyland or Disney World

That's actually kind of what I like about it and why I picked that instead of Banyan Tree or Four Seasons there. Anyway I'm intrigued, so let's see
