============================================

[/b] 50 + 5k offer for personal card. Requires MileagePlus login; redirects to https://www.theexplorercard.com/50kAFW
  • 50k miles after $3000 spend within first 3 months
  • 5k miles for adding an authorized user
  • No annual fee first year
  • No FTF
  • Each calendar year, you are eligible to receive one 10,000-mile bonus after you reach $25,000 in net purchases on your Card.

For discussion of card benefits, see the master thread in the United forum.
My math says a 50K offer. Where do the extra points come from?
The extra 5000 points come from adding an authorized user after you have been approved for the card.
Is there a business card?
Yes, and Flyertalk has a thread devoted to the business card: United business card: 50k+10k united miles
Can I apply for this card and earn the bonus after doing so previously?

Well this bit of news sucks (the news, not you!). My offer was for 2 miles per dollar on non United spend in excess of $2k per billing period.

Clearly I have been spoiling Chase with too much spend on this card. I will have to call and see if I can get the lower threshold.

They should have come after a few weeks, I think you can call Chase and they can take care of it...

Guys need your advice. Kind of concerned with what I got in the mail.

Good news is, got my card and everything, so happy about that.

Bad news, Got a letter in the mail same day I got my card saying

"Thank you for opening your new credit card account with us. We reviewed the information you provided when you opened your account and realized that we need to confirm your Social Security Number."

There's a form (That looks suspicious by the way) enclosed and the letter states

"Please understand that if we do not receive the requested documentation by April 29, 2013 we will close your account."

I called chase, they said that's strange and they would never verify personal info through the mail such as SSN...

Any ideas or similar situations guys? :S

Did the letter come in the same package as the card?
Either way, you should call and ask to speak to a supervisor and have them confirm they have all your account info correctly. They would not have given you the card if they were not sure of your social.

Sorry to bring bad news but you still may not get the bonus after the first cycle. There has been reports of people having to wait for 2 billing cycles to get the bonus.

When I called to confirm mine, the CSR said I had to add an authorized user within 103 days.

Separate letter. That is what I thought was weird. I will call and speak to a supervisor to see if they know of anything.

Chase has a pretty good fraud department. You might want to talk to them. They would know if that letter is an active scam.

Impact of closing account after miles received

Hi -

I think I know the answer to this question already, but here goes:

1. I recently got an Explorer card, and have already met the spend requirements.
2. I expect the miles to show up in my account shortly, at which point I'll book an award trip for early next year.
3. Once I book the flights, I plan on closing the account and waiting a few months to apply again and pick up the next bonus.

My question is this: once I've booked an award ticket using miles gained from the credit card, that ticket is mine regardless of what happens to the card (like me canceling it), correct?

Thanks for any insight...

Fraud transferred me to lending services. They said it's legit. Said it's a new security initiative with the Social Security Administration and they just started doing it.
