Dear Colleagues,

Today our flight attendants voted to ratify the companys proposal, which means that we now have ratified agreements with APFA and all seven TWU groups. In addition to these eight ratified agreements, we are moving forward with implementing changes for our independent employees, and this past week we concluded the management/support staff redesign. We also filed a renewed Section 1113 motion with the court to reject our pilot contract so that we can move forward with the changes needed for our successful restructuring. These steps represent significant progress in our restructuring, and were well on our way to building the new American.

As was the case with our other unionized employees, our flight attendants had to make difficult decisions for themselves and their families. We very much appreciate everyone taking the time to consider whats at stake and voice their opinions in the voting process.

We are pleased to have reached a consensual agreement with our flight attendants that offers significant improvements over the Term Sheet. The ratified agreement includes benefits that would not have been available without a consensual agreement, including: an Early Out incentive which could potentially eliminate the need for more than 2,000 furloughs, a lump sum payment on date of signing, pay increases over the next five years, an equity stake in the new American and more.

As we will be doing with the Mechanics & Related and Stores ratified agreements, well be asking the Court to approve this new APFA agreement so we can begin implementing its terms.

Thank you for your dedication to your job, our company, and your continued care for our customers.

Sincerely,

Laura Einspanier

The ratified agreement contains a $40k early out incentive without limits on the number of acceptances. I've got my fingers crossed that several thousand take the early out, which would reduce AA's FA labour costs substantially more than the 17% contemplated by the LBO.

What does this do to route structure? If you get hundreds of flight attendants taking the buyout, is the intent to downsize the fleet in the short term or hire lower-paid flight attendants and keep the existing fleet in the air?

The increased productivity requirements in the new contract will make 2,000 FAs redundant and subject to furlough (fewer furloughs than the term sheet contemplated) while keeping the current flight schedule constant. If 2,000 FAs were to take the buyout, that would negate the need for any furloughs. If, say, 3,000 to 5,000 additional FAs also opted for the buyout, that would permit AA to hire a like number of new hires, substantially reducing costs.

Although AA did not limit the number of early out acceptances, AA did reserve the right to control the timing of departures, giving AA time to plan and hire new FAs. The best thing for AA's finances going forward would be for several thousand FAs to depart, opening the way for new hires for the first time in over 11 years.

According to the LBFO document I linked earlier in this thread, management reserves the right to "limit maximum number of acceptances and determine when flight attendant can separate based on operational requirements."

Since the LBFO was announced, management revealed plans to permanently block off 4 seats on the MCE configured 738s and reduce the minimum staffing on that equipment type from 4 to 3. That will result in additional flight attendants overages.

AA management has confirmed to the APFA that it will not limit the number of acceptances among eligible participants:

Of course, AA will still control the timing of departures.

Just to clarify so these would be four empty seats still on the aircraft or are they taking out 4 more then planned?

I am going to be curious to see how Flight Attendants end up taking this.
