The BTS is not really that close however. I do like the hotel however the location when compared to the Four Seasons/St. Regis is not really compatible with working (maybe for just a leisure stay would be good).

I would imagine that the walk to the Lumpini MRT is closer than getting to Sala Daeng BTS Station.

I just completed my stay at St Regis, Grand Hyatt and Sukhothai.
St Regis, my second time in this hotel. The previous stay was May 2011. I found few management and most of employees are new to me, even they have new GM now. They should really focus on guest recognition and looking for details on guest service.
Sukhothai, we booked Garden Suite. The hotel design is amazing, when I walk into the hotel I found my mind became more clam and relax. The Thai restaurant Celadon has new head chef, the food is more sweeter compare with my last experience and probably not as good as before.
Grand Hyatt, our highlight in this Bangkok trip. The Spa cottage is over my expectation. When we arrive hotel, the assistant manager take us to the room and Spa manager join us for tour around the cottage. They really take every single minute during our stay. I will definitely back to Spa cottage next time.
P.S Peninsula just starts a THB 3300 superior room promotion few days ago and it's apply to Virtuoso benefits.

Haven't been to BKK for quite a while. Will be there this March. Any recently opened luxury hotels that's worth a try? I know there is a newly opened St Regis... what else?

For those of you planning to book the Oriental Bangkok, we past by this morning while doing the Bangkok food tour and there is a huge construction scene complete with mud, traffic jam, noisy cranes, and drilling machinary just outside the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok ... just in case any of you wanted to know:

Is there a special place to get the Peninsula for THB 3300? I didn't see it on their website. Thanks!

I'm currently at the Mandarin-Oriental. I put great stock in the advice on this board, but this hotel is a total DUMP. The lobby looks like a tacky convention hotel (with the swarming large groups to boot), the rooms & suites are not particularly large, well laid out or nicely appointed. The main building itself is tacky looking and the fitness club is across the river. The staff are not very helpful. So when it comes down to it, what are we paying for? A nice restaurant along the river? I have to laugh at a Fodor's that ranked this "The best hotel in the world," I don't think I would include this in a list of my top-500 hotels. I've been to 4 hotels this week and it's neck and neck between the MO BKK and the FS Sydney as to the worst of the worst.

I too feel that perhaps a number of the staff weren't coping as well but some were . Perhaps with many new staff since Jan G came onboard, the training is still in progress & not up to speed - MO standards yet. There's a note in the room too that MOBKK is sponsoring an apprenticeship program & to bear with - encourage - these individuals.
' DUMP ' isn't what it is, perhaps the type of crowd you encountered didn't help. The phalaenopsis arrangements in the lobby were rather spectacular.
It's that the numbers that come to gawk don't help either..tqhe lobby itself hasn't changed for years but many older staff have retired
Look at it this way, having part of the hotel across the river makes it more interesting - spa , cooking school ,etc - if they weren't , we won't be having the river experience for ' free '.
Being at 3 Amanresrts in just 2 months of this year - I don't consider MOBKK that bad.
Perhaps you too can share your thoughts if you stay till the weekend- less busy then.

I prefer the The Pen over the MO however, I would never describe it as a dump.
