Confirmed changes to the BAEC:

I have it on excellent authority(1) that the following changes to the BAEC are certain to be introduced in November (2):
.
  • F redemptions will be available only to GCHs who have previously been Blue, Bronze and Silver in the same membership year.
  • 10,000 TPs will provide a OW Sapphire for life (assuming you have the life-span of a mayfly)
  • Forward-facing CW seats will be reserved solely for GCHs. Silvers must always sit facing rearwards.
  • Euro-cheating will be prohibited unless you live in Monaco and own your own helicopter.
  • Redemptions from LHR-JFK will be available to absolutely anyone who can fly a 737 underneath the LGW air-bridge (the first attempt may be conducted in the simulator).
  • Bronze tier will be introduced. Eligibility will be determined by an interview with Pucci and selection may be made only if you are of "the right sort."
  • Bronze card-holders will be allowed into the lounge no more than 5 minutes before the gate closes and given the choice of a funnel or a straw. Binge drinking is preferable to clogging up all the best seats.
  • Premiers may access sunrisegirl's hot-tub (subject to ... er ... capacity).
  • GCHs will henceforth be required to describe the difference between Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Le Champ Gain 2007 and Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2008 in a blind taste-test before being given their card.
  • However, GCs to be made of actual gold.
  • Blue lounge to be introduced under the Bring Your Own principle (limited to 100ml bottles and situated within 10m of the gate).
  • MFU: You may MFU to the exit row (actually, perhaps I shouldn't give them ideas.)
  • Avios, Aviae, Aviatum, Aviato, Aviamus, Abi Titmus.
  • JER to be regarded as part of France for the purposes of amusement.

1: My mate Dave in The King's Head
2: Until confirmed otherwise.

Bloody heck! The last time I saw this page (last night at around 17:00BST) it was on page 18.
And now it is on page 46

Just thought I would point that out Oh, well there was an article in this morning's Times pointing
out how AirMiles users will basically get done over by the changes.

One thing that needs to be clarified - how do you pronounce Avios? Like cheerios or adios?

The thing to remember about the english language, is that things are not always pronounced the way they are written.

'Avios' is to be pronounced 'BA Miles'.

More recognition for Silvers & Golds but done with a slap in the face for Blues / (Bronzes) !!

I think that it's more likely that there would be greater recognition of miles collected through actually flying rather than all the other avenues. Coincidentally, AA have just announced that after November 2011 their Lifetime status programme will no longer count anything other than miles flown and that's caused almost as much anger on the AA board.

Which doesn't really make sense because Tier points already reflect miles actually flown.

We shall wait and see.

Just out of interest, what level of excitement / annoyance would an Avios point lifetime threshold generate, e.g. 1,000,000 lifetime Avios by any means (backdated) gets you BA Silver?

I'd rather lifetime status was determined by flying patterns rather than spend.

That wasn't quite the question.

How upset would you be if it wasn't?

Are fuel surcharges being dropped?

The issue with BA reward flights is that you end up paying half the airfare anyway in taxes and surcharges... unless this new program addresses that also, these improvements still don't mean much...

But

Avios is for flying. So the points are for your flying activity. Not how much ones wife can use the Amex card for. Or how much you spend in Tescos.
