connecting flight DFW to HNL

Hi Everyone,
I am new to these boards , have found many interesting posts.
We are travelling to hawaii in April . Departing airport is yyz @ 0710am on aa connecting flight DFW @ 935am , I have never taken a connecting flight through DFW and am a little worried about changing terminals using the the skyline. How difficult will it be. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You will clear customs before you leave YYZ, so DFW will be an easy transit.

Skylink runs a loop around DFW, makes several stops at each terminal and each terminal at DFW is linear. The trains are fairly fast and frequent.

If you have a long layover, and no lounge access, head over to terminal D, which I think is the nicest terminal with the widest selection of things to do.

It should be pretty painless. Do double check your gate information in DFW, some days I have gotten a lot of exercise going from A to C and back to A as gates changed.

Welcome s bennett. I think this question could be better answered by moving it to the AA forum. Let's follow the discussion there, at its new home.

Welcome to FlyerTalk, and the American AAdvantage Forum.

Slylink is really great - check the link - and I suspect you can't spend more than 10 - 15 minutes terminal to terminal (though if you enjoy great views of airplanes, yuo will want to spend some time on it!)

Welcome to FlyerTalk!

If you have to change terminals, it's easy. The train is airside; no need to reclear "security" if you are already airside. Your terminal will be a maximum of 10 min away from whatever terminal you happen to currently be in. There are lots of signs to direct you to the train stations.

Hi s bennett, Welcome to FlyerTalk! I may be misreading your post, but you have ZERO chance of making a connecting flight leaving DFW @ 9:35AM. Do you perhaps mean to say you land DFW @ 9:35AM? Then we'd need to know what time your HNL flight leaves to give you a better idea of making a connection.

Skylink is very convenient and easy to use, as posted above. Assuming you have sufficient time, of course!

ETA: Just read Krysia's post before mine. Makes more sense now. We would still need to know your HNL flight info to help more.

It should also be pointed out that Skylink also goes in 2 directions.

According to http://www.dfwairport.com/flyer/05/05/skylink.html , the average ride is 5 minutes, with a maximum of 9 minutes

Skylink is really easy to use and fun to boot, if you like airplanes. Don't worry and enjoy HNL.

There are two possible flights DFW-HNL, one at 11:15 and one at 1:20. I'm assuming you have the first one. An hour and forty minutes is gobs of time. It will take at most 5 minutes to get from your arrival gate to the skytrain, 10 minutes to get to the correct terminal, and another 5 minutes to get from skytrain to your departure gate. If your inbound is on time and your outbound begins boarding 45 minutes early, you will still have a half hour to kill at the outbound gate. Use this time to pick up some decent food to take onto the plane (unless you are in F). It is a long flight to find out that there are a lot of hungry people on board and not enough BOB.

by the way at DFW the train is called "Skylink", not "skytrain". if you see signage for Skytrain that means you've somehow ended up in Vancouver, Bangkok, or somewhere besides DFW airport.

you must go up one level to board Skylink (all airside). there are escalators leading up to (and down from) each station in two directions.

the B & D terminals are on one side of the airport complex, A/C/E on the other. the trains will thus go A-C-E-D-B-A or A-B-D-E-C-A. signage at each station will help you determine which train will get you to your destination quickest.

Hope this helps. enjoy Hawaii.

There is a good chance that YYZ-DFW will arrive in D and DFW-HNL will depart from D. That has been my experience.

Based on other posts, the greater concern should be navigating the enhanced trans-border security procedures at YYZ.

+1

MOST international flights arrive D, and all AA HNL flights currently depart D, so chances are extremely good you'll not change terminals. A quick check shows the flight you referenced from YYZ arrives today at D-16. D is the newest and by far the nicest terminal at DFW, so your time there will be pleasant.
