I would never put any room service items in the hall way. You call room service or the front desk and have them come get it, even if you have to make repeated calls. Its rude to your fellow guests to make them look at your finished meal laying on the floor. I guess some people think that is what you do with your tray or cart after you eat. The hall should not be a place for any guest to place their garbage. Once at a really nice hotel, a room would have a tray outside its door after every meal, we slipped a note under the door to let them know we thought they were slobs. They did not care and continued to do it.

Regarding trays in the hallway, a nice touch is to cover the tray with a linen napkin. (Hopefully the service included a linen napkin). And if your neighbors are sloppy, cover theirs too. They won't get the point, but you won't have to look at their dinner scraps.
Back to the topic at hand... What were the experiences and reactions of other family members (who may or may not know what to expect form a Cat6 property).

I also tend to put my tray in the hallway and agree that if the hotel tells you to do that, then that is proper.
What I would suggest though is that if we disagree with a poster or their opinion, telling them to stop posting their opinions is not the right course of action. One of the reasons FT is what is it today is because of all the opinons expressed in the various forums.
Just my humble and lowly opinion.

I have been told to put the tray in the hallway. and for the other things that happened, well no charges for the stay and 5 nights of Point for a cat 6 deposited into the MR account.. Now if this was a CAT 2 maybe... but not a CAT 5+

I have to add that the attitude of the guests in the hotel despite having no water was upbeat. And our family had a really good time too: we were with family, some of which we did not see often, there were a lot of family events that kept us busy (on Thurs and Fri nights, Sat day and of course the wedding Sunday in which all 4 of the kids marched). We did not sit around and let this experience ruin the festive weekend. We enjoyed everything family related. I think we just had a continous series of unfortunate events that the rest of the family did not have. We took it in stride but I knew in the back of my mind I would always have FlyerTalk to vent about it.
The boys and I even managed to go to a Marlins game on Sat night after which they had July 4th fireworks and a concert by KC and the Sunshine Band at the stadium. The concert was over around 9:45 and as we drove back to the hotel we saw literally hundreds of fireworks exploding at once. There are some areas of Florida that are very flat and I guess parts of this highway home were slightly higher and from the highway you could see miles in each direction all the way to the coast from south of Miami to north of Ft Lauderdale and I have never seen so many fireworks at one time before.

amazing nj - thanks for finally revealing the hotel name. And thanks to the Mods for moving this thread into the Marriott forum. This is the kind of information that can help us steer clear of bad properties.
A few weeks ago I was called onto the carpet for not wanting to name a hotel where I had a bad experience and now see why that was wrong.
When Eden Roc reopened, I booked three rooms for three nights for a getaway with friends from High School. (Class of '82) Based on some posts at the time, both here and at TripAdvisor, we wound up changing them to another property. I can see, based on your experience, this is a property that should probably stay on my personal "Do Not Stay" pile for the forseeable future.
Thanks.

seems OP you got the short end of everything
I stayed here back in Dec and construction was still on going. Was given a nice room ocean front in the renovated old building and cant wait to go back!!
A luxury Hotel might be the Canyon Ranch up the road a little bit. This hotel fits my needs perfectly although its not a Luxury Hotel. a Ct 6 Hotel doesnt mean luxury it simply means it will cost more pts to stay there. I can list from today till tommorrow Hotels in all the programs that have a very high Cat # but are no where near being Luxury
Ive had friends stay here as well as,they all have gone back and have made the ER their place to stay
