Just curious, where did Legendre go to? Is Eric Briffard on par and what does he bring?

Philippe Legendre - Eric Briffard

Philippe Legendre left George V to concentrate on running his high-end bakery. Unfortunately, I just heard that it went bust, so currently Legendre is cooling his heels.

Eric Briffard's cuisine is masterful. He manages to combine the most subtle herbs and spices so that they taste just-picked and perfectly complement the food being cooked. Even his sorbets taste fresher and fruitier. I would say that his expertise majors on the delicacy of scents and flavours coupled with an understanding that today's high-end guests quite like knowing what they are eating. The meat melted, it was so soft. Much as I loved Philippe Legendre's food, I think I prefer Briffard's as it is less tricksy, yet somehow more accomplished, if that makes sense.

You are far more elegant in your analysis, but we felt the food at George V is amonsgt the finest in the world from the simple to the complex.

Need PP Agent for help with Bookings

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a PP travel agent that can assist with a reservation at George V? I plan on spending 3 nights there on my honeymoon at the end of June and would like to get the best bang for my buck! Thanks in advance for all responses.

Best Bang for Buck

Well, if you want the best bang for your buck stay next door at the Prince de Galles as we did last week. They are giving 40% off rates for stays of four nights or more. We had a superior room for $313 a night (dollars, NOT euros).
And it was easy to take advantage of the thing I like best about the Four Seasons--the bar and restaurant. The restaurant is among the top five in the entire city now. The hotel money we saved paid for all our three star meals during the trip.

I think it depends on the OP's experiences and desires. I have stayed at both properties. The Prince de Galles in its former glory years was always a step or two behind the George V. Now there is probably an ocean between the two as opposed to a stream. But that is not only true in terms of rooms and the like - but prices also (I think the George V will cost at least 2 1/2-3 times the rate you quoted for the PDG). If the OP has some kind of Starwood status - perhaps he can be treated very well there (and even if he doesn't have Starwood status - perhaps the place treats people on their honeymoons well as a matter of course).
