BEWARE!! Super Dupe Snoop (a new enhancement)

Continental Airlines has signed a contract for Super Dupe Snooper, an enhancement to its Automated Flight Firming services. Super Dupe Snooper provides Continental the means to detect and remove duplicate reservations, reducing the variability of no-show levels. It compares all new passenger records (PNR) to existing passenger records in the Continental Airlines' database, looking for identical or similar names. When these names are identified, the itinerary logic compares the itineraries to determine if there is any overlap, duplication or if the itineraries are nonchronological. It also identifies a "duplicate" between a PNR with one person and a PNR with more than one person, and will reduce and divide the record accordingly.....

I read this announcement....
I assume the remarks about "nonchronological" refer to nested, back to back itineraries?

Now I don't have to worry about someone with an identical or similar name goin' my way.

They're out to get you dudes:
Non-chronological itineraries can indicate possible duplication between two one way segments even if the segments are in different city pairs. For example, if one itinerary shows a one way Tucson-Chicago flight on the 15th and another PNR shows a Tucson-Seattle one way flight on the 16th for the same passenger, these records would be flagged as potential duplicates. Mirrored itineraries would show the potential for back-to-back ticketing. For example, a Saturday night stay on a Tucson-Seattle-Tucson leaving on Tuesday and a Saturday night stay on a Seattle-Tucson Seattle leaving on Wednesday, would be identified as a possible back to back.
Read all about it!

I can see father and son with similar or identical names getting seriously hassled by this.

I wonder if this will check the partner airlines also.

If I have a back to back booked through CO and NW, can the system check by name and/or FF number?

You know, if I was marketing this kind of thing I would call it "Global Crush" or "Thyme Machine" or "Itineranz" or something.

"Super Dupe Snooper" just doesn't seem to inspire confidence in the passengers, does it?

Talk about lack of confidence in passengers, did you read the .pdf file? This is "part of AAI's Predator(TM) suite of products."

As far as back-to-back is concerned, the first "feature" listed in the summary is "Finds duplicate, back-to-back and non-chronological itineraries."

Ah, yes, snake, I quite understand.

But this is the "information" age. It is foolish of a corporation to think that this sort of detail will not become public knowledge.

I expect they have calculated that it will only leak to our sort of trivial bulletin board.

Imagine if it was the lead story on YAHOO! tomorrow....

THAT is why I would have picked a different name -- the small chance it would become a big story.

Yea -- then they could trial the software, make a big announcement to scare the offenders off, and never have to implement it ;-)

Another reason not to fly CO. They do not trust me and I certainly do not trust them.

A great business relationship!

I thought normally they just steal the software from their vendors....isn't that how they got the code for their website? I remember some big deal about that last year.

I assume they will ignore refundable tickets? After all, isn't that one of the benefits, being able to book a couple possible itineraries, then cancel the ones not needed when you determine your best itinerary? You certainly pay a premium for this benefit.
