Confused as to why some routes are 600 vs 1200 points

Hej,

I am confused as to why some routes such as CDG/CPH are 1200 Basic points in Y, while CPH/LHR is 600 points - essentially similar distance. Is there some offer I am unaware of or some historical issue with EB.

And yes all bookings are in discount Y.

Tak,

mark

Welcome to this board Mark! MIL and CDG gives the same amount on points but I dont know why London only gives 600.

On my saturdaynight shopping Mileage Runs I will use Milano and Paris since that would get me most points.

Flights are usually rounded up to the next multiple of 600 miles to decide how many EB miles the flight gets. LHR-CPH is 594 miles so it becomes 600 miles. CDG-CPH is 634 miles so it becomes 1200.

Also some routes are rounded up alot more depending on the level of competition. GOT-FRA is 548 miles but it still gives 1200 points. If not Lufthansa would not be as popular as SAS via CHP 600+600

The same with GOT-MUC

CPH-LHR is a bit difficult subject matter...
It gives totally different mileage results on different booking engines...
It ranges from 594 miles up to 610 miles (AMADEUS which SAS uses quotes 610 miles).

I don't really see why they only give 600/1200. MAN which is only a few more miles away (618 miles) gives 1200/2400 points from CPH.
Has SAS maybe used another booking engine before (say 10 years ago when EB started off) that might have listed this destination as 594 miles? And it has just hung around from that?! I have a hard time understanding why they round the mileage down as this is not really usual SAS pratice.
One thing which is usually normal practice is that European destinions are at a lower point level from CPH than from ARN, though.

I've tried to call SAS EB before about this, but they just said that they didn't really know why this was and that she was going to enquire about it (they never got back to me...).

For what I can see CPH-LHR is 594 miles and CPH-MAN is 618 so then LHR would be rounded up to 600 and MAN to 1200.

Then you're probably on a Worldspan or Sabre engine...
Amadeus showed CPH-LHR 610 miles last time I checked (and also www.checkmytrip.com for a trip I've got tomorrow). www.staralliance.com shows CPH-LHR at 609.
It's a mess!

Thanks for the reply, actually does make some sense, but agree that the LHR/CPH situation is a mess!

No I use Amadeus and get those numbers so maybe it differs from different places but it sounds strange

Oslo-PAR gives 1800/3600 points (actual distance is 832 miles).

An addtional reason for some of the 'strangeness' is that EuroBonus want non-stops on the SAS network to earn the same points as connections (where possible).

Thus ARN-CDG and OSL-CDG earn 1800 points which is the same as ARN-CPH-CDG and OSL-CPH-CDG.

This stops passengers insisting on connections just to earn more points (as happens with some other FF schemes).
