SAS has 4 aborted take-offs/emergency landings in 2 weeks

July 5: a Fokker 50 with 23 passengers from Bardufoss to Evenes returns after 5 min due to total engine failure in one engine

July 6: an MD87 with 66 passengers from Stavanger to Stanstead makes emergency landing at Stavanger airport after 15 minutes due to error-indication on one engine and fear of over-heating

July 13: Boeing 767 with 190 people from Singapore to Bangkok returns to Singapore after 10-15 minutes flying due to error indication

July 17: An MD80 with 72 passengers returns to Oslo after 10 minutes due to smell of "electric burn"/ smoke in cabin.

Operations manager for SAS Norway, Freddy Haugen, admits the situation is serious and states that SAS will have to review internal safety regulations.

It does seem more than normal. But these incidents happen all the time, at least a couple a month. Let's see, in 2 weeks SAS has around 14,000 take-offs. Is 4 'emergency' landings a lot? Does anyone know?

This story is still in the news. There were a total of 12 'incidents' during July. These were mostly false instrument indicators. SAS had over 30,000 filghts during July.
