Since most SAS competitors have fuel surcharges, even skyeurope and airberlin, SAS just bucks up the trend.
Finally, i think there is also a psychological effect for consumers that don't know pretty well the system and the taxes: a cheap ticket for them will be a cheap fare, whatever taxes are, since "taxes" sounds like "imposed externally by government and no way to escape". Therefore 2000 SEK = 600 SEK (fare) + 1400 SEK (taxes) will feel much cheaper than 2000 SEK = 1700 SEK (fare) + 300 SEK (taxes)...

Hmmm. Prices have really gone up. ARN-GOT return is now 4.200:- SEK and ARN-CPH return is 5.550:- SEK if you call SAS for a Full Flex. Pretty steap.
The IATA C-fare is slightly cheaper than SAS CSEFLEX - comes at 5.100:- SEK for any routing ARN-CPH within mileage limit, all in. First time one thinks the IATA fare is a bargain.

Try for instance ARN-GOT-CPH-GOT-ARN and you will get fare basis CIFRT (C-class, IATA-fare, Return) and it will be priced slightly cheaper compared to ARN-CPH-ARN using CSEFLEX.
SAS can obviously do it if you call, even for the direct routing.
BTW, that routing gives 6000 EB basic points if EBG. Pretty good for a one day trip.

It's often (TPM: direct flight distance between city[not airport] A and B) x 120%.
TPM of STO-CPH: 326 miles
So, it can be 326 x 1,2 = 391 miles.
There are exeptions, like...
AP (via Atlantic/Pacific)
EH (Eastern Hemisphere: via Asia)
TS (TransSiberia)

IATA CPH-ARN:
MAXIMUM PERMITTED MILEAGE IS 373
Which is good for e.g. routing via GOT which will give 1500 + 1500 basic EB points one way.
To be honest I´m going on CIF directly to CPH and back today. Maybe I´m starting to grow up?
