Valid point. I am not an expert on that route - but if the number of up-ops truly is as high as discussed - then yield is not likely the best. But hey it is a ARN route so Lindgren will not likely kill that one :p

The difference between CPH and ARN is not that CPH has more business traffic, the difference is that they like to spit in every EBGs face and charge points for upgrades and at the end when they figure out they STILL need more people to upgrade, they give status less pax upgrades for free.

Seriously, ORD is SAS most profitable destination

True - but it is still SAS (og SGS) and I hope this is not the reason changing hub.

The following is an interesting article regarding the future relationship between Copenhagen Airport and SAS - the article is from copcap.dk but is basically a translation of an article in the largest Danish business paper Børsen.

SAS maintains Copenhagen as its main hub and opens new routes

I have read the originally article in Borsen and it states that CPH and SAS at the moment are in final talks about several new intercontinental routes out of Copenhagen – this year we will probably see a new destination in China (can only be Hong Kong I presume) as well as a destination in another Asian country.

Unfortunately the article doesn’t mention anything about plans for adding new aircrafts, but let’s hope this will happen soon, so these new routes won’t be added in favor of some of the current destinations and routes.

Mats Jansson said on the press conference (or possibly the analyst meeting) in connection with the annual report that there were no plans at this moment for expansion of the intercontinental fleet - so no new aircrafts right now... But you never know...

I think that AY is or has been flying HEL-BKK-HKG, at least a few days a week. Maybe SK will start CPH-BKK-HKG? The A340 is sitting idle in BKK many hours every day since SK stopped BKK-SIN, and the business traffic to HKG might be the right thing to raise the yield of the CPH-BKK route as well.

Main story: SAS is considering opening CPH-DXB. They are also looking at another destination. Decision to be made within 7-10 days.

DBX is not a bad idea.. just a little concerned if there is enough traffic from CPH. It is not like there is a huge number of *A connections in DBX

Cheers,

The history tells us that SAS hangs on to intercontinental planes for around 10-15 years tops. We also know that SAS is not happy with the economy of the A340.

The Boeing 787 is a perfect plane for SAS operations, it has the range to reach all destinations with 2 engines and 30% less fuel burn than the current fleet.

If SAS plans to get 787s (I know they have plans to do so) within the next 6 years, they need to act now. For every new order made on the 787, SAS have to wait even longer.

So when Mats says there will be no expansion at the moment, he's probably right. The expansions can't come for at least 6 years...
