Me too.

Policies are one thing, but most people (I know) don't give a damn and use the points on themselves.....and I would do excactly the same myself

My (government) employer's policy is that points earned on business trips must be used for business trips. If you earn points both through business trips and through other means, you must keep track of your point sources and be able to account for them on request.
Yeah it's definately taxable, like I also wrote earlier, but I read an article in a Danish newspaper some years ago, stating that the Tax authorities there had received declarations of EB miles from 10(!) people, and there were at that time 400 000 EB members in Denmark, so if people actually do it is a whole other matter

Then I guess the policy among scandinavian government and universities are the same as gov and unis i.e. in the US, and not at all like companies in the private sector. Thanks for clearing that up!

But for sure, like Inixion said, you can and should use the points on upgrades while flying work-related long-eco.
And you are still earning towards a Gold status as well ^

Yes,

I also think that many times company policy is dictated by a will to keep their backs free if the taxman would ask some day. I know for sure(almost) that my company doesn't have any way of knowing how many points I've earned from work related travel. My boss is also very much into earning points and not flying point-to-point to maximise earnings so points earning by itself is hardly an issue. Choosing the cheapest trip possible is something else but can so far be manipulated by electing to choose as necessary departure times that coincide with full earnings...

Some companies also see miles as an extra benefit to those of us that have to get up 2-3hrs before the rest of the company in order to travel for business...
