Breakfast venues

Hi all

I'll be flying in from London at the end of this month staying downtown at the Pan Pacific Hotel on Post/Mason.

IMHO hotel breakfasts are poor quality for the high prices they charge.
Can anyone recommend a good breakfast place near the hotel?

Thanks

Very close to your hotel is Dotties, which is, imho, one of the best breakfast places in SF. It is at 522 Jones, between Geary & O'Farrell. However, be prepared for a very long wait - it is a very popular place.

Can I ask: What do you like to eat for breakfast, and how much time are you willing to spend walking/riding to get it?

My recommendation - totally ignoring the word "near" - would be:
Cable car to Fisherman's Wharf, Ferry to Sausalito passing Alcatraz and seeing Golden Gate, flat scenic walk ~7blocks (2000ft) on the coast road to the Lighthouse Cafe. IMHO, best breakfast in SF area.

Dottie's sounds good. As for what I like eating at breakfast... nearly much anything! When staying away from home I generally treat myself to scrambled eggs, hash browns, french toast.

The lighthouse sounds fantastic both for the views from the journey there and the breakfast. I'll probably give it a try one morning.

Thanks for the suggestions.

You picked the place for breakfasts! With so many hotels there, there are tons of places catering to that crowd. I usually go to one across from Hotel Nikko, close to your hotel (but I can't remember the name).

Get the "ultimate breakfast" with the mixed fruit pancake.

I love it! Make the journey part of your breakfast experience.

Ferry schedules:

Given the ferry schedules, a weekday might be your only option if you're going to get to Sausalito at a breakfast time. I'd suggest a leisurely stroll down to Market Street. Catch a historic trolley -- the F line. Take it to the end of Market (toward the Financial District). Walk a block or so to the Ferry Building and look for the "Golden Gate Ferry" signs. Off you go to Sausalito.

You could take Blue & Gold or GG Ferry on your way back. If you take B&G, just catch the cable car back to your hotel.

I've never eaten at this restaurant, but every part of this journey would be scenic and enjoyable.

Don't know how long you'll be in SF but if you go to the Ferry Building Market Place at the Embarcadero (end of Market St) on a Saturday there will be the Farmer's Market and some small restaurant kiosks selling prepared food. I've had the Mexican dishes which were authentic and delicious. Inside the Ferry Building in one smallish restaurant I've had an order of beignets! Have fun!

Do you remember which restaurant in the Ferry Building serves these beignets? Thanks.
