La Toque is a very small and simple restaurant (with an enormous stone
fireplace) with exquisite food. The chef, Ken Frank, is a young man (maybe 40
years old) who will achieve some "celebrity" status in the next few years (I
know that PBS was just there to film a segment on him). The food is French with
a "California" twist. He is also not afraid to combine this with Japanese (or
more broadly, Asian) or Meditterean influences. The waiters are all very
knowledgeable about the food and the wines (I would recommend the pairings if
you have the means). Introduce yourself to Julia, the manager/host, if you get
the chance!

Now through mid-February: La Toque's Ken Frank offers his 22nd annual Truffle Menu Celebration, which consists of either a five-course dinner (including a truffle dessert), as well as la carte options (prices are dependent on market conditions, but the most recent prix fixe price was $60, with an optional $56 wine-pairing option).
