Anyone make it to Fleet Week?
I wasn't able to make it unfortunately. I've had a few friends tell me that they were disapointed with the Blue Angels performance. They said that they didn't perform very long, and didn't do many tricks. I'm curious to hear from other people who were there, as I just can't imagine the Blue Angels disapointing a crowd.

Yeah, we were disappointed this year too. We took our sailboat out Friday and Saturday to see the show.
Saturday they were missing one of the solo planes. I assume there was a mechanical problem because they generally bring an extra pilot. The close passes by the two planes where they look like they're going to crash head on are usually pretty exciting, but they couldn't do those with the one plane missing. I suspect that's what your friends were referring to when they said they didn't do many tricks.
Friday all the planes were there, but it was still not as exciting a show as in the past. My husband and I were actually wondering if we've just seen them too many times and are kind of jaded or if after watching three hours of planes flying we'd had enough.
IMO, the Canadian Snowbirds stole the show. They don't do the daring maneuvers the Blue Angels are known for, but nine planes flying in tight formation are impressive. A few times they all flew pretty much straight up together and then spread out from each other and rained down like a giant firework exploding. That was cool. The low passes over the boat are very cool too.

I was out on my family's boat last year to watch the show. Nothing can beat being out on the water and seeing them fly by.
By the way, what kind of boat do you have? My family has a 60' wooden hull schooner, named Gold Star. We're out on the bay pretty much every other weekend. Aren't we lucky to be living in such an awesome place to sail?

We have a Jeanneau 34, Allegre. We sail mostly during the week (my husband works most weekends) and I do some weekend races on other boats.
And I think our boat's a lot of work ...
I'll keep an eye out for you on weekends.

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">The name sounds very familiar.</font>

Actually, it probably sounds familiar because we had a similar conversation some months back on your OMNI thread asking if there were any sailors on (the) board (bad pun intended). We keep the boat at Marina Village in Alameda. It's not the most unique name - I think there are about five versions of Allegre just in our marina.
Wish I could have seen the photos Non-Non Rev. The site wouldn't let me in.

letiole - did you have a chance to try to copy and paste the links into a separate browser? That works in most (but not all) cases - the site hosting the photos is quirky about direct and indirect access.
